I have two cousins who have had the bypass surgery. Both lost weight rapidly, and hair, and skin color. They both left their spouses (one male and one female), and have since suffered severe depression and addiction problems, neither of which was present before the surgery. I know there are success stories, but I personally would never have it.

My doctor refuses to suggest it, or endorse it, or refer anyone to have it done. He says that the mortality rate (death rate) is very very high, as is the complication rate (something goes wrong).

In addition, the routine after surgery has you doing exercise, changing your diet, getting counseling... in other words, everything you've been told to do to avoid getting to this spot. If you don't do those things then the weight will come back as the stomach stretches around the band.
