Brian Rohrbough's son died in the Columbine massacre. Do you agree with his statement? Your serious thought, please.

"This country is in a moral free-fall. For over two generations, the public school system has taught in a moral vacuum, expelling God from the school and from the government, replacing him with evolution, where the strong kill the weak, without moral consequences and life has no inherent value.

We teach there are no absolutes, no right or wrong. And I assure you the murder of innocent children is always wrong, including by abortion. Abortion has diminished the value of children.

Suicide has become an acceptable action and has further emboldened these criminals. And we are seeing an epidemic increase in murder-suicide attacks on our children.

Sadly, our schools are not safe. In fact, we now witness that within our schools. Our children have become a target of terrorists from within the United States."

Yes, good point....it does...just look what happened in Germany with Hitler. He used evolution to promote getting rid of certain races.

No, evolution does not promote murder...
The example you have provide the Columbine massacre does not represent anything that guy said. It has nothing to do with the separation of church and state. It's the parents NOT THE SCHOOLS responsibility to teach morals in the first place. Plus, pray all you want, it does nothing. (Source 1).

Now the students who committed the atrocity, I pity them. I understand the situation they were in. The constant rejection from the "popular" crowd. They were probably worse than the ones I know. The ones that were killed aren't to blame but, the intolerant culture that some forms of Christianity has created. (Source 2)

Now to the evolution part. The people who committed the Columbine Massacre did believe that they were doing acts of natural selection. Which is irrelevant in evolution creating murder since millions, maybe billions were killed in the name of religion. Humans are social creatures, we survive by living in societies. It's what has gotten us through the Stone Age to the Modern Age. If we were some how genetically (Evolution only works by changing the gene pool) predispose to murder our kindred. This genetic defect would not be an advantage in surviving and reproducing. Because you'll either be jailed, kill your spouse, you're kids kill someone and then get jailed etc. It doesn't help them survive to reproduce. So it really wouldn't help anyways. Very rarely do we find species that kills their kind. In evolution is survival of the fit. The ones with the disadvantaged would be the part removed from the gene pool.(Source 3)

Now, public schools teach in a moral vacuum? Wow, just because we don't study the bible doesn't make us without morals. First off its the parents responsibility to teach morals. Lately, Parents have been slacking and wanting everyone else to do their jobs. Kids are free to pray at lunch, breaks, etc. There's even a Christian Club at my school. (I shutter at the thought though). So, the fact that the teachers don't preach us about damnation and god means that there's a moral vacuum? I thought school was were we learned things of academic values. Theres even theology classes, or World Religions at most schools. So...whats wrong? (Source 3)

Abortion causes violence? First I heard of this. This sounds like some scum bag using his son's death to advocate his beliefs. Why must we force our beliefs on others? If we give them the right to chose, then the pastor, the Sunday school teachers etc. Should tell their people not to. But people who don't believe the fetus, embryo etc. is alive. Let them do what they want. They're not hurting you. (Source 3)

Now to the topic of suicide. It happens but, obesity is a lot more bigger problem now and days. But anyways, Psychiatry is a still an infant science but, hopefully with new information about the human psyche we can prevent these deaths. But the the philosophical point of view. They have the right to chose, if they chose not to live let them. Now the so call epidemic is non-existent, crime rates have had a general lowering trend but, with the media everywhere it seems like it happens more often because of it.

"This country is in a moral free-fall."
Prove it.

"...replacing [God] with evolution, where the strong kill the weak, without moral consequences..."
Animals killing other animals is a fact of life, and exists whether the theory of evolution is valid or not. It also has no bearing on how human beings conduct themselves. See: Neo-Cortex. Ours are a good deal more developed than other animals'. We're still animals, but we are somewhat unique animals.

"We teach there are no absolutes, no right or wrong."
These two statements are not equivalent. The lack of absolutes does not preclude the existence of right and wrong. It just makes it more difficult for people who fail to realize that life is not always black and white.

"Abortion has diminished the value of children."
Again, prove it. In what way has it done this?

"Suicide has become an acceptable action..."
No it hasn't. In no way is suicide viewed as acceptable in our society.

"Our children have become a target of terrorists from within the United States."
So, everyone we don't like is a terrorist now. I suppose Jeffery Dahmer was a terrorist, as well as Ted Bundy, Marshall Applewhite, and Jim Jones. Their actions certainly evoked terror, so they must be terror-ists.

The Columbine shootings were perpetrated by violent, mentally-ill young men. It has absolutely nothing to do with evolution, abortion, video games, music, or any aspect of society. It has to do with messed-up parents raising messed-up kids. The text presented here fails to make any connection between evolution, abortion, godlessness, and the Columbine shootings.

I think that HE is what is wrong with society.

Instead of fixing problems with our OWN children and communities, he is pointing the finger at evolutionists, democrats, Atheists, and anyone else who supports all of the things he argues against.

It's not a matter of taking god out of the schools. It should have never BEEN in the schools, as our country was founded on the freedom of religion (all, including non-beliefs) and the seperation of church and state.

It's a matter of PARENTS teaching their children the difference between right and wrong. They shouldn't depend upon perfect strangers to actual reach their kids! They are the ones with the power and influence that could actually make a difference!!!

Not to mention, if we did teach the bible in schools, there may be a CHANCE (not a definate, I'm just throwing this out for the sake of an opposing argument) of less tolerance and hatred towards other religions, homosexuals, etc. Not to mention, people may go as far as performing some of the violent acts they read in the bible, and say, "The bible said it was ok! I was just following the bible!"

It's the job of the PARENTS, not the SCHOOL to instill their children with this basic premise. School is for learning about science, math, english, etc. All the basic necessities to get a job, move on in college, and beyond. It's the parents job to prepare them for reality and teach them the golden rule.

As though things were SOOOO much better when religion was in the schools, and rapes went unreported because the victims were ashamed and taught that they brought it on themselves, and women and children were beaten by their husband or father (also rarely reported) because it was socially acceptable to do so.

Things aren't nearly so dismal as you seem to think. Crimes just get reported more often, and there's better new coverage on it all.

And of course someone else mentioned Nazi germany. Where Hitler was proudly doing gods work (His own words), by exterminating the jews who killed his son. Wonderful example of religious views making a country safer and stronger.

No, I don't think Evolution has anything to do with people being bad people or the world being unsafe. The world has always been an unsafe place. And It seems like those who are the most fervently religious are the one who are committing all the worst atrocities.

Do I agree with his statement? Yes and no.Yes ,school shootings are on the rise ,but the reason has nothing to do with God or a lack thereof the reason is because people are treated unfairly by a system that claims a separation of church and state while offering benefits and programs for the religious and allowing them to gang up on and victimize the minorities,Not that I think school-shootings are a good thing. But as Marilyn Manson said when asked what he would have said to Eric Harris and Daryl klebold,"I wouldn't have said anything to them, I would have listened to what they had to say , which is what noone did" When people have exhausted every conceivable resource to seek justice ,they often turn to violence to get their point across ,it's just human nature.

Let's compare the number of people that have died due to religion to the number that have died due to non-religious reasons. I think we'll see a bit of a lop sided equation say a few million to one.
I do believe in god, but people kill each other and have forever. I feel for the families of the Columbine victims regardless of the cause or motivation, but let's not jump on the religion band wagon and forget the millions that have been murdered in the name of religion.

No more than religion does. Don't mean to offend, but there has been plenty of killing in the name of religion, and several religions are guilty of it.

Anything can be used for good or evil. I hear the same thing about guns, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." It's the same thing.

If you want to talk about absolutes (mentioned with abortion here), are you willing to absolutely abolish abortion, including to save the life of the mother? In which case, who is more important: the mother or the child? And who makes this decision? If you want absolutes, be prepared to live up to them. You'll find you won't like the consequences.

Yes absolutely - because it devalues human life. The suicide rate skyrocketed after evolution began being taught in schools.

Its a shame this theory is taught like it is fact and children, in many cases, aren't given the chance to hear both sides of the story and make up their own minds. They are being blindly led to believe it is a fact in some cases. Where is the room for critical thinking here? Creationism and evolution should be presented.

Honestly, I blame the parents--school is not supposed to raise a child 100% morals and values are SUPPOSED to be taught by the parents, and the parents are SUPPOSED to be the ones who know their children notice these problems and get their children the help they need--it has nothing to do with the school, which is doing what it is supposed to, provide an education

Although I think what this person wrote has merit and is well written I do not agree with all of his conclusions. He makes valid points and concerns we should all be aware of. I just don't see all the problems concluded the way he does
