That murder will get someone 72 virgins in the afterlife. As if violence gets rewarded. =(

That God of the Old Testament. While he gave people the Ten Commandments and told people not to kill, he instructed his people to stone those who committed adultery and also told them to abandon those who were born with an infirmity out in the wilderness. And yes the idea of hell is also disturbing. If he made us to be imperfect then why would he punish us for being that way? Doesn't make sense.

The entire concept of a religion encouraging suicide bombers in the name of jihad---with a promise of 72 virgins as a reward is upsetting to me.

I've heard of a cult called the Children of God, though they have changed their name to something else. They used their women to lure in new members by having sex with them. This cult believed in "free sex". This meant that the married couples would share their spouces and CHILDREN. Pedophilia was very prominent in that cult. The son of the founder was sexually abused from when he was five months until he was, I think, sixteen. All of his violations were photographed and documented. He ran away, went back a couple of years later, killed one of the women that abused him repeatedly, and then commited suicide. It just makes me sick that people can use religion as a smoke screen to commit such things.

Not so much the concept of Hell itself, but the concept that if you make a single human mistake, whether you mean to or not, you'll go to Hell. That always bothered me about the religion I grew up with, that we were supposedly created by God to be imperfect human beings, yet if we behave imperfectly and make a mistake, we'll burn forever.
Seriously, what would a loving God do to a person who was starving and had to steal food to feed their family? I can't see an all-loving God as letting innocent children starve because the father couldn't steal lest he burn in Hell for loving and caring for his kids and stealing bread so they could live just another day in hopes he'll be able to work and earn enough money to BUY food.
Nor can I see a loving God punishing a woman for divorcing a husband who beats her within an inch of her life on a regular basis for no reason, especially if he was also beating the kids. So she's supposed to go to Hell because she broke her marriage vows to protect herself and her kids? Right.
What about kids getting molested by a family member? So they're supposed to go to Hell, too, for not honoring their father or mother who was doing that to them? I can't see God doing that, either.
There's all sorts of things in the Bible that are hellworthy sins, from being a woman and getting raped(yes, in the Bible, a woman was to be stoned if she was raped and didn't scream loud enough for help) to being a kid acting up as kids are apt to do(there's a passage about parents taking an unruly, delinquent child to the gates of the town to be stoned by the elders for not obeying their parents) to thinking a movie star like Brad Pitt is hot(supposedly, that amounts to committing lust with one's mind in the Bible) and hating someone(which is considered murder according to the Bible).
So if a kid acts up, they go to Hell. If someone thinks a movie star or someone they like is sexy, they go to Hell for having "impure" thoughts. Being so disgusted with someone that you hate them sends you to Hell. I guess there's going to be a lot of children and hormonal teenagers in Hell, along with anyone who hates Osama and Saddam and Hitler for the horrible, evil things they've done.
The concept that a person can go to hell for small, insignificant human behaviors disturbs me more than the idea that Hell is a place of eternal fire and torment.

All of the religious freaks on this site that answer questions with their literal translations of the bible and pretending that they have the power to judge others in Jesus name are disturbing.

I'd have to say its a three way tie between the Mayan concept of human sacrifice (with the blood representing rain), Islamic laws about killing raped women for "having sex outside of marriage" or having them be married to their rapist, and the Christian belief that innocent children are starving and suffering because ONE woman, that God created imperfect, fell into God's trap...

The idea that anyone can justify their hatred and judgementalism by claiming it is God's will.
And yes.. Hell is up there, too!
