Sounds like it may be sciatica. Thats an inflammation of the sciatic nerve. It causes pinching sensations usually in the low back, buttock or upper thigh area. It could be right side or left side, since the nerve goes down both legs. If it continues, I would talk with your doctor.
Also, try not to bend over a lot, and lift with your knees (dont bend over to pick something up, kneel down and lift it that way, less stress on your back)

Though sciatica is a common problem, it is really surprising that often it is hard to tell why a person suffers from this ailment. This is why it is often referred to as a back pain complex. Even experienced doctors find it difficult to pinpoint a cause. Number of medical conditions lead to sciatica such as stress and trauma at any point on spinal cord or lower back. This is understandable but when a person feels this pain and the underlying causes are as general as obesity or pregnancy, it presents a vague picture to the doctor. There can be many more underlying causes that require supervision and treatment at the right time.

Hi there;
Skipper is partially right in that you are getting pinched.
The cause of the pain is varied but the bottom line is that you are over using a part of your body that is not fully equipped to function repeatedly in the manner you are using it.
While I am no doctor ( I strongly recommend that you see either a chiropractor or a doctor) IMHO, if your symptoms get better with rest then you have over worked your spine's muscles. In that case you have a back strain which will give the symptoms plus others depending on the degree you are over working yourself.
See a doctor for relief. Do not try to medicate the symptoms. The pain means that something is wrong or being misused.
Don't medicate the symptoms, medicate (if necessary) the cause.
Good luck.

did you injure your back or neck one time? do you sit in one posistion poorly for long periods of time over a span of time? alot of time relationships there. redundancy can be a factor, pain coming from poor situations like bad seats, sitting before the computer.... laying wrong in bed, bad posture. have you been in an accident? twisted your back or neck? maybe you sprained something and hadn't had it looked after properly? see a chiropractor and he displaced a disc or ruptured a joint? you do sports often? pinched nerve? that could be another problem. i have this from time to time, mine comes from sitting way too many hours with the computer, but that's how i get paid too bad. i correct it by exercise and sleeping on a futon. somehow it works. have a doctor look at it. and if they say see a chiropractor, do try to find one that has a good reputation. too many of them suckers will make a bad situation worse! ever get someone to massage those areas around your affect region? ever soak in a sauna with jets? it may be either a sprain or a pinched nerve.. hate to think it's a slipped disk but... ??? do think about it.. and remember maximize your alternatives, don't just go with who says what, examine each specialist and good luck. (in case you really need to see a doctor and get that looked after) remember there's many doctors out there just don't settle for one's opinion and reference. talk to friends and others who have this problem too see what it is they've done if anything.. and collect information on their suggestions to who they were referred to and went to... and remember if they're still in alot of pain or they aren't happy with whom they went to about their problems... don't see their doctors. :D good luck. oh i forgot along with exersize if you can stand it... stretching is a good idea.. but see a doc if it's real bad! yoga has helped some and so has pilates. some, not all. be careful.

Muscle imbalances!
Stretch the hamstrings and get some GOOD deep tissue massage. Not just on the butt, all over.
