The Little Drummer Boy is probably one of the best known Christmas songs around the world, who can't name that tune of Pa rum pum pum pum? This song is part of the American tradition and celebration of the birth of the Christ Child. It is the story of a ayoung boy who wanted to give a gift to baby Jesus but had nothing to give but his song. It is appropriate on several levels:
1. Children singing a child's song
2. A glimple into the story of christmas
It is appropriate.

I cannot imagine why not. Although there is no Biblical or historical truth to the story of The Little Drummer Boy neither is there any Biblical or historical truth to the story of Santa Claus.
The Little Drummer boy is a poignant wistful song. It speaks of humility, a child singing the song would not realize this but somewhere in the recesses of the mind the idea of humility may stick and that cannot be a bad thing, can it??

i can not think of why no longer. inspite of the undeniable fact that there is not any Biblical or historic certainty to the story of The Little Drummer Boy neither is there any Biblical or historic certainty to the story of Santa Claus. The Little Drummer boy is a poignant wistful music. It speaks of humility, a newborn making a music the music would not comprehend this yet someplace in the recesses of the strategies the belief of humility could stick and that may not be able to be a foul element, can it??

I'm an atheist, and even I like that song...
...but it's not appropriate for a public elementary school event. It promotes one religion over another. It's against the separation of church and state.

It was acceptable in the 1970s when I was in elementary school, but I figure you will have more than one person say something in this day and age.

umm.. yeah. why not? who cares if it has Christian overtones? Christmas originated with Christians, so why try to purge Christmas of Christianity? atheists would have very few holidays if they did that.
