It turned out that the real Pope had been replaced by John F. Kennedy, who wasn't really dead after all, as Lyndon Johnson was actually the one who was shot in Dallas.
Then the Pope had plastic surgery and assumed Lyndon Johnson's presidency, thereby secretly taking over the United States, just as all the Protestants had always feared.
