It goes back to the US-Mexican War of the mid 1800s. A good part of the Western US was claimed by Mexico and not yet part of the US. The US fought a war and won and paid a pittance in reparations to the Mexican government - something like $20 million (Not sure of the exact amount, though.) The next year, gold was discovered in California and the year after (1849), California was made a state. The Mexican government has been bitter about this ever since, especially since the amount of wealth taken from the Sierra foothills in the Gold Rush was many, many times greater than paid to the Mexican government. There has also been some rumblings from Spanish radio that that is why there are so many Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles - that they're trying to take it back by culturally overwhelming the city. I don't know if that is true; I have just read about it in some mainstream media stories here in CalifonriMF
Maybe you don't live in California or have heard this before, but it is a REAL sentiment among many Mexican-Americans. (I am not Mexican American; I am just reporting what I have read.)

I agree 100% and have said so on numerous occasions. Mexico has plenty of land and the people are still poor. IF Mexico still owned California, Mexicans would still be poor. It is the Mexican elite which keep the Mexican people poor and not the gringos to the north as they would like to believe. The people that say California used to belong to Mexico and THAT is the reason they cross are pretty much idiots. Monkey hear monkey say. Most don't have the ability to reason or think for themselves if they did they would have to come to the same conclusion.
Here is another myth that our government is trying to spread.
"It would be impossible to deport them all. It would cost billions"
Hello, it is already costing Billions to keep them here and do nothing. It will cost Billions of dollars and millions of man hours to process the paperwork if the amnesty bill passes. It will increase welfare by billions because now the whole family can collect. Are we supposed to believe that is easier and more cost effective than putting them on the first bus out of town?

The difference between Germany and Japan is that they never owned California. Mexico did. And Texas and Arizona and of all things, New Mexico. We took them in a war, that's all. Maybe Mexico will take them back some day as a result of war. It's not as far fetched as you might think.

The Mexicans come to the USA because they are hungry, they are extremely poor in their country and they come here in order to work and take care of their family. They don't come to the USA thinking that because California was part of Mexico that they have the right to come here. Their problem is more than that it is call, hunger, no work, no money, etc. and the inept and corrupted government that they have don't do nothing for them..

California once belonged to Mexico. This is the 21st century and we need to get with the program. This is the United States of America.

Yes the Mexicans were there when we got there and they were the most cruel to the Indians than the white ever was.

It is a lame argument, we bought it, so we own it now... If they don't like the results, they should of just stayed out of U.S. business.
