My girlfriend has had tonsilitus for about a week now and has been given pills by the doc but nothing seems to be happening and she's just as bad as before. How much longer till shes ok? How infectous is it? Anyways to help get over it?

Normall it takes about two weeks with anitbiotics, If she isnt getting better at all, she should see her doctor, the antibiotic may not be working or she could have developed a tolerance for it. It is as infectous as a cold or sore throat, but of course if you dont have tonsils or adenoids, its a lot harder to get. The key is a lot of liquids and gargle with salt water. Stay away from milk products.

She needs another type of antibiotics, if she took the pills it should have brought some relief within either 48-72 hours.
Since the weekend is coming up she should go again to the doctor and ask for something different, she shouldn't be suffering that long. In the meantime take 2 extra strenght Tylenol which should relieve a bit of the pain.

Tonsillitis is an infection in the tonsils. How long it takes to get over it depends on how long the infection lasts, and how severe it is. If the pills haven't made any difference after a week, she either needs different medication or a different doctor.

If she has been on the medication for a week with not getting any better she needs to go back to the dr. to get a different medication. I hope she feels better I had that and it was terrible til I had my tonsils removed.

Don't be kissing her face until she's better! Try hot and cold showers (3 min hot, 2 cold, 3 hot, 2 cold), a warm cloth around the neck, zinc - C lozenges, "Throat Coat" herb tea. Give it another week, at least.

Wow, I would seek another professional opinion. I had the surgery when I was in my late teen's. I only had it for a few day's and than was feeling better. If she is still sick, they must not have done a great job. seek medical advice immediatley. and take all your medical charts with you.
