Not trying to insult anyone, but how many researched their religion PERSONALLY,(i.e. wasn't recommended by a friend, family member, etc.) before choosing it?

Fish, smiley george, and pamela, I believe I said I WASN'T trying to insult anyone, relax ,it's an EXPRESSION,I'm not calling anyone a monkey I'm just to use another expression curious as to whether or not any one has "done their homework",no reason to get upset, unless you're repressing anger about being forced to take part in religous practices you don't consent to,in that case by all means, you have a right to be angry.

Actually I did research. I went through many religions and faiths before I bcame a Pagan. I thought hard about becoming a nun, went for Wicca, tried many things until I finally just decided to roll them all together and go with what I had when I was a child. I talk to God out in the hills and the feilds, know that animals and all living things have souls and that I need to be kind to people. Suddenly everything simplified and I was happy again.

No body wants to be fooled or find out they are wrong. I moved very slowly and study what it is I believe and why it is I believe it. I refused to be told what I am suppose to think and not know why. I trusted God to confirm and direct me in my direction. I have never been let down except when I stopped listening and asking. Most people are like sheep. They would rather be lead then do the hard work of finding these answers out themselves. This is true of EVERYONE regardless of their beliefs. It is so much easier to follow then be responsible for ourselves. I was shocked when I would ask someone why they don't believe in this or that and they would say they weren't sure except their church said its wrong. I don't blame the church I blame the individual. Thank God there are good church leaders willing to Shepard these people. Atheist are just as bad for doing this.

I am a college trained minister. I suppose I have researched my religion. However, it is not so much what your religion is that's important, but what your theology is. It is also important what your worldview is. So your idea monkey see, monkey do is false. What do you believe monkey?

You do a poor job of hiding your real intent just by saying I don't intend to insult while saying insulting things. If you start out with the phrase monkey see, monkey do, you invite insult and I certainly will oblige.

I was raised in Church and had some pretty strong beliefs. As I grew, and really examined what the Bible said I soon discovered errors, not with the Bible but what I had been taught.

Have I gave up on God because of discrepancies in some particular church I was raised in? Nope. Some of what I was taught was right - but where they were wrong - BOY! was they wrong.

I don't go to churches now days. But I still have my beliefs. I haven't found any Church that teaches what I have found true in the Bible, so I believe what I believe and if no one likes it - sorry, but I cant give up my beliefs for anyone.

My family handed down their faith.
But I've studied it, keep researching, it hasn't changed...and I'm still learning (bible study etc)
My husband left a "higher" church due to some of the strictness, and disagreement with some beliefs. But is happy in the Church we call home now.
As a family, took us 2 times to find the right congregation. Sometimes, it takes a little searching.

I was into many religions prior to becoming a Christian. I'm a research junkie, I needed historical, archaeological, geographical and most important for me, scientific proof that the bible was true. After reading the book "The Signature of God" by Grant Jeffrey I couldn't deny God anymore and became a Christian. Peace :-)

No. I was born into my faith and I embrace the truth of it completely. I am thankful to have been raised in a Christian home & church.

It's no more monkey see, monkey do than say children in school. They don't have a choice to go to school but they have a choice to follow the directions and pay attention and obey and learn or fail in school and fail in life.

Those who have gone before us pave the way. We are wise when we follow and seek their wisdom. It really doesn't matter what label you choose to place on us - robot, monkey, whatever. It doesn't disqualify the truth that we know and believe in and willingly follow.

That is a good question. I don't think many people would have reasearched their religion. But I have. And I have decided it is dumb and contradictory and now I am an Athiest. I know you all are curious to find out which religion I am talking about, but nevermind. I do not want to cause a hassle.

I was raised Luthern, then researched several other religions since I wasn't satisfied by the answers. I am an agnostic. I gave several a try.
