Some alcoholic beverages contain substances such as sulfites (necessary to prevent bacterial and fungal contamination) which can trigger a histamine reaction in some people. This can lead to nasal congestion as well as flaring up asthma symptoms in people who suffer from asthma.

You may have been exposed to smoke, that will make your nose stuffy. Or if you drank too much your blood pressure may have gotten too high. Did you try blowing your nose and if so did it bleed. If so too much alcohol. Blood pressure rose.

Were you running around in the cold weather without appropriate clothes on?

Because our senses are dulled when you drink, we often don't feel the cold and stay up all night drinking without a jumper on, or shoes etc and have to suffer the effects the next day.

Sometimes, if I have just one beer, I get allergy symptoms. But if I'm out drinking with the band, I don't usually have any problems. Just when I have one....hmmm

My nose doesn't get stuffy... Maybe you're allergic? Or... just a thought, it was the smoke that is causing you respiratory distress??? Unless you snort your drinks... To each his own on that one.
