I know it would destabilize the region. But isn't the region already destabilized. How much worse could things get?

I think what would happen is the same thing that is happening today, only on a grander scale; innocents would be slaughtered by the thousands. Saddam was removed, in part, because he was killing his own people. Terrorists would gain control of the country and spread to other countries, as it is threatening to do now, with Syria and Iran. Then again, I could be wrong!!!! Good Luck!!!!

The United States would lose the War in Iraq officially if we suddenly withdrew our forces and ironically gave up the effort to dominate and change Iraq into an Ally of America by force of arms.
America started the War in Iraq based on the false assumptions that Iraq's threat to America was direct and real, but Iraq did not attack the United States on 9-11, and Iraq was not a threat to overthrow the US or even attack the United States.
Their was no apparent consideration of starting a public debate, discourse or study of the appropriateness of going to war in the Middle East with a Country that had poor relationships with America but in no way imaginable could threaten the Sovereignty or liberty of America.
It is as if the Old Nineteenth Century Concept of American Manifest Destiny over the Western Lands and Native Peoples had metastasized into a International and cancerous right to invade and conquer Iraq as a pure act of will and revenge against anyone who seemed vulnerable and resembled the enemy that did attack America.
This massive mistake in judgement and military reaction to a real threat from outside the United States is so egregious and morally wrong that the United States must admit to itself and the world that we paniced in a time of real danger and that we were wrong to do what we have done and that we must make amends to ourselves and to the Iraqie people.

It's amazing that some of the same people who claim there would be a bloodbath if we left, say nothing about the hundred thousand who have already died or in the case of Vietnam, one Million. The bloodbath has already happened. But, shock and awe was a long time ago and we have short memories. Once Again; Saddam had no WMD, NO nuclear program, NO Al Qaeda, what he did have was an educational system, water, medical, food, an infrastructure, electricity and a population who should have overthrown him. Now we have the responsibility to rebuild everything we destroyed, good luck with your tax cut.

There would be a very bloody civil war (like now but bigger) IRAQ was a country drawn on the map by some moron brit. Lets make a country out of 3 peoples that HATE each other. Ok, the thing that held Iraq together so long was tyranny and fear. I say, stop foreign nationals (really terrorists from iran, syria, jordan, saudi) from entering. Then pull out, moniter from a distance, do not allow other gov'ts to take portions for themselves and let the so called "Iraqis" kill each other or split.

I truly think we should do it like this:
#1 remove all the innocent children
#2 remove all the women who want to leave
#3 give both factions equal amounts of ammunition
#4 remove ALL our troops
#5 stand back and let those who don't want to leave fight it out

They have been fighting for thousands of years and will continue to do so until they decide to stop. It is THEIR war. Not ours. We have done what we can. No need to endanger the lives of the innocent children or their mothers or sacrifice any more of our military. This may sound cruel but I see no other way. It is the only humane thing to do at this point.

Chaos, utter chaos would ensue and an outright civil war would be inevitable between all the waring factions. Another consequence of our withdrawal at this stage would be that we would lose our credibility as a super-power, an image that already has been shaken and that is on "thin ice."

The same things that happened in South East Asia after the U.S. pulled out of Vietnam.

I honestly think the reason there is so much chaos is because they are trying to get us to leave. If we withdrew only some, then there probably wouldn't be enough to cover all that's going on. I think we need to sit down and think of different strategies. We can't can't just withdraw now and leave that country in total ruin.

There would be civil war and the biggest bloodbath the world would ever see, worst than what happened when
the US government pulled out of Vietnam.

Just think of Afganistan during the Taliban era with lots of Bin Laden in there.
