its best to loose a max of 4 pounds in a week. otherwise you will make your body seem like your starving and once you loose weight, you will end up killing yourself sooner because your body will release starvation horemones and try and get you to eat more and more food so you loose more then you loose.

Right now I have been going to a nutritionist. He is also a acupuncture doctor. They are like little needle things that don't even hurt. I go there every two weeks and one of the other people that have gone have lost 6 or more pounds. He puts you on an diet and you must follow it. I lost 6 pounds in about a week and a half. If you exercise you can lose a lot more! The best thing is that the more you eat the more you lose! So I love it! But you can only eat a lot of the foods he/she tells you to eat. So anyway if you were to do that you can lose 15 pounds in 1 month or more I guarantee you. You won't be disappointed with the results at all.

12 pounds, plus placenta, if it's a big baby!
Or as the old joke goes - "I got rid of 200 pound of ugly fat in a week by divorcing my husband!"
Seriously, if you're losing more than 5 pounds a week if you look like one of the "Biggest Loser" crowd, or if you lose more than 2 lbs. a week for a relatively normal but slightly overweight person...
Anything more than that, and the question will be "How?". In the show "Biggest Loser", they are on a monitored diet and are exercising full time.
Starving isn't a great idea, because after a few days, your body figures out it's starving and goes into "conservation" or "survival" mode - it starts consuming that pesky muscle that uses up calories, and it stops burning as much as it can. Besides, there are serious health problems that can come from starving yourself. If your body decides to consume some heart muscle, you could cause heart problems, especially if you're trying to exercise.
Heavy exercise (a) doesn't do that much without a good diet too, and (b) if you're really out of shape, runs the risk of causing heart attacks.
Most 'crazy' diets are basically starvation diets with the same effect. The Atkins diet and similar claimed that eating mainly protein would (a) cause the body to think it was starving (no carbs) and use the stored fat reserves, while (b) the protein amounts convinced the body it wasn't starving and the "survival mode" muscle loss wouldn't happen.
The worst but fastest "diet" is water loss -which is what some boxers and wrestlers do to get down to a better weight class. Body-builders also do this to make their veins pop out to add to the "effect" during competition. Nothing says "please screw up my body" like dehydration!
(BTW, body builders also exercise and undereat fat and carbs to rid themselves of sub-skin fat layer. This makes the muscles and veins more defines, which is what makes them look like serious freaks. This is so very NOT HEALTHY!)
So really, what you want to do is establish a healthy lifestyle; refular healthy exercise, while reducing the amount you eat. If you lose a pound a week, in a year that's 52 lbs. If you're able to lose 52 pounds, then you should. If you don't, you'll be fine in a few months. Which, when you think about it, is what long-term weight loss is all about.
