Hi David...if the medication was applied recently you can try to wash that area off thoroughly. However, if it's been on for more than 24-48 hours it may already have absorbed into the cat's system and should be seen by a vet very quickly. The dosage requirement as well as some of the ingredients used to treat fleas in canines are different and can be very toxic to cats.

First off...why in god's name would you even think of putting flea medication that is made for DOGS on a cat? What's perfectly fine for a dog, can kill a feline. They're a different species, in case you have not noticed. You're not even supposed to give a cat dog food.....are you too cheap or naive to buy a flea killer/preventive that is made for cats?
Second, get the cat to a vet ASAP.It's in danger of dying because of your goof-up. If you're serious about keeping this cat, learn how to properly care for them.

Take it to the ER vet right now before the cat dies. There is a do not use on cats warning and its on the back of the flea shampoo for a good reason.

You have basically poisoned your cat! Yes, use mild shampoo to wash, dry. And do not take time to read further, find a vet. Could also try the poison control center. Most vets have a on-call vet for after hours and holidays so call around now.

I really don't think you should put a dog flea collar on a cat, other wise they wouldn't make cat flea collars.
You should take it off asap and consult a vet

I think it was a very unwise thing to do dog meds and cat meds do not mix. See a vet or lose the cat

I would wash it off immediately and call your vet or an emergency vet service that is open all the time.
