Hi there...the best way to help take down the swelling is to hold a cold compress for less than 2 minutes or as long as your kitty can tolerate. Make sure the compress is not in direct contact with the fur/skin but wrapped in a towel. If the swelling doesn't go down in another 24-48 hours, please consider ringing your vet so they can discuss alternative treatment options
Hematoma is a large bruise or blood clot that usually develops following trauma but may occur due to a bleeding disorder. This usually results in swelling in one area of the head and may be painful. In shorthaired, light colored animals, a bruise or discoloration of the skin may be seen.

Well, you already did the right thing, by taking him to the vet. If he gave you ointment, or drops, make sure you are using them as you are supposed to. You may want to call the vet, and explain to him that the swelling has not gone down and ask if you need to bring him back. If he is calm enough for you to hold, you could try putting a cold compress on it. Best of luck to you, and I hope he is O.K.!!!! I have 3 cats, so feel free to contact me with any?'s

Looks like everyone didn't read the part where you took your cat to the vet already, lol! You've done your part, and your vet should've given you an ointment to apply to the cat's eye in order to help prevent infection. Most of it is up to the cat now, healing takes time. Give him the ointment and the time he needs to allow the swelling to go down, chances are he'll be okay.

Wow.. People obviously didn't read that you said you already took the cat to the vet..
Why don't you call the vet back and ask what to do about the swelling? Or try getting the cat to sit still long enough to put some ice on it..
Duh.

Cats are very capable of healing minor boo boo's. Like humans a cats eye will swell to protect an injury. Try holding a cold cloth or ice pack gently on the cats eye. If it will allow you to that is. The area may be very sensitive.

What I would do is put you cat in his bed in a quiet area of the house. I suggest you carefully bath his eye with saline, you only need a tiny pinch of salt in a bowl of water, use cotton balls or a tissue. Repeat twice a day or as often as needed. If the cat puts up a fight, leave him alone, he is probably still shocked.
I hope he gets better soon

I am SO SORRY to hear that! Get your cat to the vet immediately if you haven't yet. This could end badly if you dont. AFTER THAT then you just got to nurse it and let your cat feel the love. Good luck and God Bless!
