Determining your eligibility to the Social Security disability benefits program can be confusing and problematic, and often, professional assistance is required or desired to help navigate the processes and procedures. Also, professional assistance can be helpful if you have been denied Social Security disability benefits. However, here are some guidelines that might give you an idea as to your eligibility:

The Social Security Administration (SSA) identifies a disability as an 'inability to engage in any gainful activity because of a physical or mental impairment'. According to their guidelines, benefits are only paid for total disability- no benefits are paid for partial or short-term disability. Disability is based on your inability to work- to either perform work that you did prior to your medical condition, or that you are unable to adjust to other work. Furthermore, your disability must last for at least one year to be eligible for Social Security disability benefits. The SSA requires that substantial medical evidence be presented in order to receive disability benefits.

The second major qualification to receive Social Security disability benefits is that you must have 'paid' enough into the Social Security system. Generally, the number of work credits you need to qualify for disability benefits is 40, and 20 of those had to have been earned in the last 10 years ending with the year you become disabled. This is a general guideline, and younger workers may qualify with fewer work credits.

You've never worked but it'll be two years before you can "work again"??? Something's fishy.

You don't get unemployment compensation unless you have worked.

SSI is determined by how disabled you are. It's not the same as Social Security, where you have to have worked. People who have never worked can draw SSI if they meet guidelines.

If you can type on a computer, there are jobs you can do. My son is so autistic he can't talk or even tie his shoes, but he has a job.

The first thing to do is remember to ask a lot of questions. Call social security at the 800 number listed in the phone book. Everything you say to them is confidential, so don't be afraid.
Then call the county information line in the county you live in and they can direct you to agencies locally. Also make sure that your doctor(s) know what you are doing. Just remember there is a lot
of paper work and it takes time, about 3 to 6 months. The on line address is ssa.gov

in assessment to SSI that's a welfare application, there is not any set earnings quantity for Social secure practices advantages. the quantity of the Social secure practices earnings is desperate by ways plenty the worker earned. The decrease the earnings, the decrease the earnings. those salary earners who artwork and pay the optimum social secure practices tax receive a month-to-month earnings of over $2000. i do no longer recognize what the minimum earnings quantity could be yet i'm specific that's under $one hundred in line with month. $674 is the optimum SSI earnings quantity for somebody.

I am sorry to tell you. But if you have never worked before you will not qualify for SSI.
You might wanna go to a local social security office in your state. Get an appointment or go to

www.ssa.gov here you find the forms. But like I say you need at least 20 credits in order to qualify.

There are lawyers who handle such claims. You'll have to pay a fee up front for a consultation, but if you're entitled to disability payments, it's really worth the expense because Social Security will make it nearly impossible to gain those benefits on your own. They sure made it rough for me! Without the lawyer, I'd probably not have gotten my SSDI payment for years!
