Yes they can feel the cold if left outside for too long. If you absolutely have to leave them out in the cold weather - you should preferably have a dog kennel with a small dog mattress and some cozy blankets inside where they are able to go and keep warm. If it's coat is really thin you could even strap a dog jacket on it. Your dog sure will appreciate it. :-)

Yes, the cold can be harmful to any breed of dog if not cared for properly. Even a husky can die from the elements if left with and empty stomach. The wind is the worst part, it robs the body of heat. Most dogs if healthy and able to find shelter can survive temps much lower than people. It is however stressful for a dog to deal with the elements. If an outside dog has a box to block the wind and precipitation, some straw which helps to maintain heat and a healthy diet most will do well. I dont recommend it for your small designer breeds though they dont have much body mass and are unable to maintain heat.

Yes it can kill them. Dogs that are raised out doors ca stand cold to a point. But when the temps fall below freezing they need to be inside and your dogs need to be inside because you have raised them that way. If yo do have to leave them outside get them a dog house and put a 60 watt or higher light inside with a guard on it like a trouble light ( the kind with a cord and a plastic guard and a hanger on it) also the dog house needs a door lik a pet door to keep the warmth in. And a soft bed filled with cedar chips.

Does your neighbors dog have a dog house? And how cold is it exactly? What kind of dog its it? Most bigger working class dogs are made to be able to handle most weather. If its a little pup like a poodle or such do something immediately! If he has a place where he can get out of the element such as a dog house with a blanket in it...he will probably be ok as long as they make sure he has fresh water every day. If he doesn't have shelter or if you notice his water freezing over and not being replaced you should call your local humane society or police and report them for animal cruelty.

It depends on the breed of dog, some dogs do fine outside in the winter as long as they have some sort of shelter (doghouse). Others, like the short hair breeds, don't do as well. They don't have the thick fur that helps to regulate body temperature. A few hours a day shouldn't hurt them, but if they're not used to being outside I wouldn't leave them out overnight.

if the door comes by the door to come into the house the dog is cold. I would not leave a dog outside to stay unless it was just a few minutes,
You did not say if your dogs had a warm dog house to go stay until you let them back ouside.
If you don't then it is not good to let the dogs outside. if your friend, is up set get a gate that leaves them stay in a small area of the house. make sure you keep the dog area clean, and any mess the dogs make.

The cold can kill a dog if it is cold enough, they do have natural protection agains the cold due to their fur, but they need to be provided with proper shelter. If you live in a very cold climate you can put a heat lamp in there dog house. I have small dogs and they freeze so they have to wear coats and sweaters, but they live inside.

Yes! Especially if short hair. The breeds with a thick dense coat will do better, but if being left out, they need straw in a doghouse that is free from drafts, especially in cold climates. Short hair dogs like dachshunds will get hyperthermia and can die.

If you live where the winters get cold, there is no shelter for them to get in out of the weather. Call the ASPCA. Dogs are warm blooded mammals as we are. They feel the cold, they just have alittle more hair on them. And humans take on the role of guardian to them when they take them in. They are suppose to take care of them. They get colds, pneumonia, respiratory, just like us. I feel sad Herring what that dog is suffering. He has no choice till someone decides they will bring him in from the cold. I live in Texas so our winters are not so severe as other states. 32 degrees is freezing, people, plants, pets. GOD BLESS YOU! sus04mc@yahoo.com

If it gets cold enough, it can certainly harm the animal. The same could be said of any bad weather.
As long as the animal has plenty of food and water and the weather is favorable, I would assume that the animal would be fine.
