It is christmas time for kitty's too. I put little dangly ornaments on the bottom of the tree specifically for the kitty to play with. Make sure the tree is stable and will not fall on kitty and let it enjoy the christmas season too. You will get a lot of enjoyment out of watching the kitty play also.

Ok, here is what I do with my ornaments every year (my cats are 13 and 14 and don't mess w/ the tree TOO much anymore)... For the ornaments with hooks, pinch the hooks down TIGHTLY around the tree limb. For the ornaments with loops of string, put the ornament on the branch, flip the branch up OVER the string backwards and pinch it down, creating another loop. It's a pain in the tush to take the tree down, but keeps the ornaments safer.
I also put kitty-safe ornaments on the bottom of the tree for my Phoebe because she likes to bat them when she is throwing her "fits", other than that, they leave the tree along and just lay under it. Oh, and ALWAYS put the more important (heirlooms, expensive, etc) ornaments at the top out of kitty's reach. Good Luck!! Happy Holidays!

Carmel used to attack the ornaments when he was a kitten, but now that he is one he does not show so much interest. One thing is to make sure your tree has fishing line to hold it onto something. Also if you place the tree in a corner where it is surrounded by furniture it deters them too. We put all the ornaments we did not want him to get at up very high on the tree. We did not use tinsel or anything made of glass or that could break and hurt him or people. We also have a spray that animals don't like from the pet store and you could spray the whole area with that. Or some people suggest just watching what he does and using a water spray bottle on him every time he goes near the tree. After enough sprays, he will lose interest.

Mabye just buy a cheap kids' playpen or something and make sure its tall.
Otherwise lock your cats in a room with something to do until
you get home.
If this doesnt work....
mabye try putting the ornaments up a little higher.
Never had a problem with that with my two cats...
Actually,if you have a spray bottle around, fill it with water and then every time you catch them batting at those things, spray them lightly.Watch out for an electric sircut!

the cats are attracted to the shiny ornaments. the only way to keep them from knocking things off is to put them higher in the tree. that way, the cats can't reach them. that's how my family did it. good luck.

Tie balloons to the ornaments. When they get surprised by the popping sound, they'll stop.
