I Work in a Shelter and worked in another Shelter before this one. Parvo is a horrible, deadly disease and you should be carefull with your pup without going overboard.. Parvo lives where a Dog that has had Parvo has used the Bathroom, and dies down in time. Your Pup is born with some natural immunity from its Mom but as that wears off the Vet comes in. I would keep my dog away from Heavy Traffic Dog areas , Clean with Bleach, BTW Bleach Diluted with water is useless after Two Hours for Killing Parvo and alot of Other things.Leave Freash Mixed Blech Water down 20 minutes , Then rinse where your Puppy Lives and Plays...Watch out for Interenal Parasites as Well, They can be just as Deadly If not More....Good Luck with your Pup!

Yes.Your puppy can catch parvo just from walking on the same sidewalk a dog infected with parvo walked on.Parvo is in a dogs poop, urines all body fluids and the fur according to what my vet said.If the weather is just right parvo can live on any surface for a few months and is also a airborne virus.

It is so contagious that the shelter recommended pouring bleach on any spots where the infected dog had eaten, vomited, or eliminated, and even then to keep other dogs away from that area for at least a month. I was just so happy that it wasn't my dog they were talking about.
I don't know if the shelter said so, but I have heard that it can stay active in the environment for up to 2 YEARS. If you can, walk your puppy around your backyard, or another area that is controlled. Use a non-dog friend's yard (with clean-up duties) if you don't have a yard of your own. Good luck, and I hope your pup stays strong and healthy!

Parvo is very contagious usually transferred from one unvaccinated nursing puppy to a litter mate. Parvo virus can live in soil for many years. Birth should be on any bleachable surface not on dust or dirt, although that is no guarantee of safety. One of the first signs in a litter is the mother removing a puppy from the group and ignoring it. The cure can cost thousands of dollars for a litter and you will be lucky to save one puppy. Spay and vaccinate your dog to avoid this heartbreak.

Parvo is very contagious. It stays in the environment for a long time.
I was concerned every day that I walked my puppy before he was immunized. Thank goodness that he didn't catch it.

Parvo is a virus that your dog can be exposed to in many ways. It is a very hardy virus and gets into the environment via feces or anything that comes in contact with where feces have been. That is why your Vet does not want you to walk your dog in places where dogs go or at least limit possible exposure. You can step in or come in contact with the virus as it lives up to nine mos. which means its possible to be some place where you might not even notice feces and you could bring it in to your dog via your shoes, for instance.

It is among the most contagious of viruses and is almost 100% fatal. I saw an entire kennel of beagles wiped out in 10 days a few years ago. Get your dog inoculated as quickly as you can if the disease is in your region

VERY contagious. It can also stay dormant in a yard for a very long time too. When he has his Provo Shot, he should be OK.
