Please don't tell me Chapstick or Burts Bees or anything this is beyond that. Also Vaseline every hour is not working.

The funny thing is, it can't be the cold. It hasn't been much colder than 50 yet.

I dislike menthol so non-mentholated suggestions will rank best on my list.

You should try some special kinds of Blistex, or a good idea would be to got to your local store, look in the pharmacy section and look for some products for extremely chapped & bleeding lips.
Here is a link you may also want to check out! God bless you! :)

I really like Burt's Bees lipbalm. It's really waxy so will stick to the lips well. I think that with the extent of your dried lips you could perhaps be dehydrated? Make sure you drink a lot of water and stay away from acidic things such as vinegar as these can also chap your lips. Plus if you are on any acne medication then this will be the reason you're lips are chapped. If you are not dehydrated or anything I would recommend going to see you're GP as it may be something more, and they could prescribe something which would probably work better than any lip balm

Use Carmex on your lips. It is clear and comes in a little white jar w/ yellow lid in any drug store. It should heal them in 2-3 days. BUT keep using it, or the chapped lips will return. Stop licking your lips. Always make sure you have this stuff on when you go outside. Vaseline is too thin and comes off fast. Carmex is wax and stays on a lot longer.

If they are thin, raw, and chapped then the only thing you can do is keep a vaseline or wax based moisturizer on them. This will prevent water (or more likely saliva) from getting on the area. If they are sore, pealing, and dry then hold a warm, wet washcloth on them for about 5 minutes and then coat with a very generous coating of vaseline. Cover again for a few minutes and then scrub off the vaseline to remove the dead, pealing skin. Then reapply a chapstick that you like using.

Short term, if it isn't some bizzare symptom of a rare disease (see your doctor) then a bit of patience (which no one likes) is an order.

Drink more water.

I used to have the same problem every year. Read an article about how the lips are an indicator for the rest of the body. Was skeptical but tried it anyway, drank about double or more the water I was (not )drinking & it worked. I say - double or triple your water intake & see if it gets better. also, do NOT lick your lips.

Good Luck!

;-)

Actually, you should avoid Chapstick and any other lip balm that contains alcohol because this will just continue to dry out the delicate tissues of the lips. Make sure you aren't licking your lips constantly too. Remember, saliva is made to start the digestion process.

I lived in Cheyenne Wy so I know what you are going through...The vitamin E is good advice...There is also something for fishermen that is wonderful....I have always found Blistex and the like to be useless...but to really heal the lips maybe you need to exfoliate the area before you put anything on them....lightly "scrub" the are with something like St Ives scrubbing cleanser....I know it sound harsh and it may sting a little...just scrub lightly and then coat your lips with the vitamin E...you should remove the dead tissue so the oil can be better absorbed.... please prevent this by staying hydrated and keeping the chapstick on before they get to this stage....

If you're in the states, go to your farm supply store, and buy some Bag Balm. It's used for cows udders for when they're nursing or if they crack and bleed from milking. I know, gross, right?

It's on the same line as Vaseline, but it's medicated (and perfect for humans...). http://www.bagbalm.com/

It's one of those old remedies that's passed down from generation to generation. You get a buttload of it and seriously, it works really good for your lips. I use it after I burn the crap out of my lips from skiing.
