I have just been informed that I am going to Boston for a training course in December. Screw Boston!!! It has been a dream for me to see NY city. So I am gonna get the Amtrak express Friday night and spend the weekend in NY.
Can anyone give me some tips on where to go?
I dont want to do the tourist thing, I just want to enjoy the real local nightlife of NY. Small local bars and clubs, good people, nice girls :)

If you want small local bars, check out the East Village/Lower East Side.
Lots of places to choose from, live music if you want it, plenty of girls!
Start on Houston and 1st Avenue - you can walk in just about any direction from there and find lots of cool places!

A good night spot is Greenwich (grin-itch) Village. It's the artsy part of town. Celebrities sometimes go to bars there. It's where some musicians got their start. It's located at about 9th St. and Avenue of the Americas. Washington Square Park and NY University are nearby.

Greenwich Village & the East Village for local bars & such; but really, there's much more to see in NY. In December you shouldn't miss Times SQ.; 5th Ave. & Central Park.

Hun , i lived in NY my best advise is keep your wallet in your front pocket, hit the family restaurants and see a good show,
and whatever you do if your taking a laptop with you mark out direct routes where your going and nap them so the cabbies don't rip you blind
