To get the best rates in Thailand, try www.asiarooms.com as they have very good deals. They offer better rates than walk-in rates.

Though I understand that you might want to check out a place before you book it cos though pictures may say a thousand words but it doesn't say the most truthful words.

Bangkok should be fine for walk-ins as they have PLENTY of hotels. And it all depends on your budget, though Bangkok is quite full all throughout the year.

Down South at Phuket and up north in Chiangmai, it is high tourist seasons. Some of the nicer hotels might have been snapped up already because travel agents block them in bulk. So it might be better to book early. If you booking through agents, talk to them about the hotels. Big agents usually send their staff over to the hotel itself for inspections etc. And you have to take note of compulsory gala dinners on New Years' Eve at almost all hotels.

Wish you luck and lotsa fun in Thailand.

I lived in Thailand for 5 years. Though Christmas is the most popular time (high season) and some places will be booked out, you can very likely find a place without booking in advance.

In Bangkok it'll be no problem, just research which area you are most interested in and take 4-5 different hotel names with you before you go and you can check it out.

If you're heading down South, I'd actually recommend trying to book something as it'll be more difficult to simply walk in.

It sounds like you don't have something booked for the night that you arrive. I'd recommend booking something for at least that first night. No fun getting into a strange city after a long flight and having to go in search of a place.

Have fun. It's a great place and you'll enjoy it.

I recently went on my second trip to the Greek Islands, this time with my fiance, the first time on my own. The first time i booked all of my accommodations ahead of time and spent a lot of money. The second time my fiance insisted that we just let the wind take us where it may and we actually ended up spending a lot less money with two than I did with one.

If Thailand is the same I'm not sure. I work in the Middle East and know a lot of people who go there, thought it's most likely not for the same reasons you are. It such a stigma over here that I refuse to go anywhere near there because the first thing that will be assumed upon my revealing i have been or am going is that I am indulging in certain activities that I am very much opposed to. I know they say it's pretty inexpensive where ever you go. Good luck!

You can do either. Booking ahead is a good idea but you can always find a ROOM if you didn't. The downside of NOT booking ahead is the hassle of trying to find the right place at the right price and what is suitable for you on the day. If you are not fussy as long as you can get a decent sleep, there are places.
Having said that - the dates you are going is in the high seasons and it might take you a while longer than usual to find one.
As already said by many people - do a bit of research. You will get accommodation but you might not have as many choices to suit the exact dates you want in one place.

Regardless of what you decide - you will have a great time in BKK.

There are tons of good hotels in Thailand especially in Bangkok and you can manage it there but,to be safe its always better to book when you are travelling abroad.
I think that the wiser decision will be to book earlier coz apart from Bangkok I think not even 10% Thai people understand English and so communication is a problem
Good hotels in Bangkok:
Bangkok Palace
Baiyoke sky hotel
The former one is relatively cheap.
In Pattaya:
Central Pattaya
U can book online as google can easily provide their websites
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hi, Bangkok is such a nice city where hotels are plenty on every corner, foods are fantastic.
Concerning your room, I suggest you to book the room in advance. www.thailandselection.com offers few alternatives and what great is that booking is instantly confirm. I personally find it convenient because no need to going back - forth confirmation. No worry of the payment because guest pay to the hotel. Wish you a great stay in Bangkok

what's the 5 nights using from Ko Samui to Phuket? ought to take some hours. ought to be a mistake. in case you do now not want the worry working on your itinerary, enable the guy cope with it. in case you want to pre-plan your holiday and flow via the reserving of the motels in each and each city, then do it. it particularly is somewhat all you ought to do... e book the inn room. would be extra value-effective or extra costly, yet a minimum of that's going to be you who chooses the inn. reserving the motels is somewhat the sole ingredient you ought to do. as quickly as you get to the region, each thing would be close by, from taxi's, excursion applications, eating places, in spite of you want. in case you want a chilled holiday, i'd for my section decrease down the places. provide your self a while to merely walk around each and each region. Phuket is overvalued, yet once you want to flow, attempt Karon sea coast merely south of Phuket - much less worry and much less stinky, or attempt Krabi, there wasn't quite some travelers there beforehand this 12 months. Why now not flow to Chiang Mai interior the north? See something distinctive different than islands and seashores? The foodstuff and transportation is going to be somewhat low value. No concerns there. I rented a taxi from the realm of the line to take me from Phuket to Krabi for 1900 baht. It became early interior the morning. :) The excursion applications would nicely be got here upon on the foyer of any inn, and lower back - low value. looking on your selection, the motels would be the place you will spend maximum of your money. i'd ask what motels you would be staying at and doing searches on them. £one thousand ought to be adequate for foodstuff, beverages and a few procuring. FYI, there are monetary employer ATMs in maximum places, so deliver your mastercard if something pops up. call your mastercard organisation which you would be traveling to Thailand and provide the dates so as that they be conscious of it particularly is you on making the withdrawals.
