I think a lot of Atheists have posted some quite offensive questions here, but I've also seen a lot of "Christians" retaliate in a similar fashion.

Is it time to agree to disagree?

I am an atheist, but that doesn't mean I don't believe in anything.

I do believe in rationality, accountability and truth. I do believe that what goes around comes around. I do believe that you should always be genuine.

Peace.

Heinz: Religion is based on thought, otherwise we would not have the awareness to even concieve a higher being.

But what about the combined consciousness of humankind? isn't that powerful?

Julia: because we're not trying to be any better than anyone else.

There's a Japanese saying: None of us as good as all of us.

This reminds me of the phrase "There are no Atheists in foxholes".

Well, la de dah.

I suppose you like the white meat of the turkey; as if no one else prefers that portion.

Re-read what you wrote:

"I do believe in rationality, accountability and truth"

"I do believe that you should always be genuine."

I am very sorry. But, I cannot respect anyone who brags on his own intelligence and sense of fair play.

If you were really rational, you would not declare that you opinion is rational and those who disagree with you are by insinuation irrational.

And as far as truth, the only thing true is that you are reading this sentence.

*all other data interpretation is slanted by a person's perspective.

If you really seek the truth, join a debating club; a place where you argue the good points of one side, and then are required to argue the good points of the diametrically opposed viewpoint.

Well said.

Many atheists and conservative Christians at this site are often equally offensive and closed minded. It's hard to imagine either group thinking that people are going to believe how they believe, when they seem so utterly miserable living with those views.

We should all commit ourselves to understanding WHY people believe the way they do. You don't have to study for very long to understand why many atheists are disgusted with organized religion, or why people of faith find it difficult to imagine why someone would choose to live life without a connection to God.

Thanks for your question and shared opinions. Peace.

It's an honorable looking question that you have posted. However, it's never going to happen. People will always disagree and some with quite offensive behavior. Even saying 'peace' to someone will sometimes get you a fist to the face. Some people are just mean and offensive.

I hear ya, though.

By adopting the term 'atheist' you are simply allowing the theists the define the rules of the game.

You have beliefs and principles (as stated in you question). The way to avoid conflict is to refrain from fighting on somebody else's chosen ground. Simply assert your own principles, defend, refine and promote those.

It seems to me that the religious label somebody chooses to adopt is a very poor predictor of their ethics.

There may be a middle ground. There is an old monk raking sand in a Zen garden and he pauses for tea. We are asked to join him, you and I, and all three of us sit there near the edge of the garden enjoying the silence and the beauty without a single thought in our heads. This, too, is creating karma. It is the karma of possibility. I happen to believe that all of us are born with a sense of right and wrong. Granted, it gets lost in translation a lot of the time. But not to digress. I would like another cup of that great tea and your company a little longer and that peace and quiet is absolutely delightful and makes me feel happy inside.

What you are saying couldn't be more correct...I think that for the world to be a happy place we need to set asside any differences we have and move on...However sadly I don't believe what goes around comes around...because life is just not always fair, thats just life.

Yes, and there is no point in being rude to Christians. They honestly believe what they believe, and are trying to do what's right.
While their beliefs may seem odd, we can still respect each other as humans. Amen.
(Yes, I'm a saint, but an atheist saint)

You know that isn't going to happen. These arguments have happened for millenia. Just be thankful that this time it's only on the internet instead of trying to blow each others heads off with guns and bombs.

And it seems that you are better equipped than most christians and other religious groups. but be careful, your beliefs have started all religions, in one way or another. I am not knocking you or your core values, I wish there were more atheist around. Because now days most people are bible thumping anarchists, and they dont even know it.

Well, I believe you're going to hell, along with someone I love very much. Atheism is a complete DEAD END. It takes COURAGE to believe in something you can't see, something good and pure. Do yourself a favor and re-examine your 'beliefs',, and see if maybe you aren't better served pursuing faith in GOD, rather than pursuing faith in your OWN godliness, because afterall, that IS EXACTLY what atheists do, whether they admit it to themselves - OR NOT> Peace.
***bring on the thumbs down, you spineless, gutless cowards.
