Because in the eyes of the religious, anything that is different from what they have been told to believe must be put down...and this to them is perfectly acceptable.
It's truly sad that a belief system that preaches love and understanding can hold such a double standard when it comes dealing with alternative views.

There indeed is a double standard, and that is why I report every single person that insults an Atheist on this board. I also report any "question" by theists that is really a statement. Just a momment ago some idiot made a "question" that said "who created the universe if god didn't?" and then he had a paragraph about how it is impossible than anything but god had made the world. That person is looking to make a statement and not get an honest answer as to why or how some people think its possible. I encourage you to help me report these abusive people.

Hypocritical people. The US Constitution grants freedom of religion which also means freedom FROM religion. But more to your point, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. If someone wants to preach their faith that's OK (first amendment and all that) but the same protections apply to someone who is a non believer. Unfortunately some people just aren't very bright and they don't get all that.

The reason you face opposition is ~85% of the people in America believe in some form of god.
Think of it this way:
How would people in the U.S.A respond if Muslims started proclaiming women should wear hi jabs like them.
The Muslims would face harsh opposition because American culture deems hi jabs suppresses women.
Its the same with a non-belief in religion.
Its been American culture for the longest time that you must believe in something in order to achieve a successful life.
Its ingrained into the American psyche that belief in nothing=low self-esteem.
God Bless

first of all Alex, any time somebody asks a organic question of religion in this internet site, interior 20 seconds they're going to receive 2-4 solutions from atheist in the past receiving the different answer. we are actually not stupid as atheist will declare, and we are able to be certain what they try to do. because of the fact of this atheist will fail interior the top, no remember what stable issues or undesirable issues the Bible says, this spirit isn't suitable. I ignore each and all of the undesirable issues Christians or Jews ought to assert to atheist because of the fact every time I ask a query, atheist leap the gun to instruct delight and delight to hurting a persons' thoughts. They made YA their sought after playground for malice. they're going to fail after the long-term human beings see how undesirable their thoughts experience, in while in comparison with what God CAN grant them. i'm only going to concentration on the stable thoughts. I forgive those atheist because of the fact they have been inspired by utilising different atheist who have been helpful. they are clever persons and are available up with very helpful solutions. yet, their spirit would not experience stable, so for my component of spreading God, it extremely is to advance peoples spirits. this could be our ultimate protection against atheist, additionally, we could continually love our enemies. I do this to alter their spirit too, because of the fact their thoughts don't experience so stable, and that i think of they must substitute in spite of if or no longer they suspect in God or no longer.

Definitions of offensiveness are determined by thin-skinned little crybaby theists. Everyone is supposed to respect them because it's what they BELIEVE, and "Don't you realize it really offends me that you say Jesus wasn't the son of a virgin, that's my faith you're talking about," blah blah.
Well I think it's offensive to say that dinosaurs lived at the same time as man and that they're mentioned in the bible, because they DIDN'T and they're NOT. When people start caring about offending me I'll care about offending them. It's open season until then.

Because, believe it or not, America is a country rooted in deep religious beliefs, which is unlike most countries throughout the world. I personally don't care for America's religious overtones, but you have to wonder if our country would be the same today without those religious teachings upon which it was founded.
