The police officers were undercover (plain clothes) narcotic officers. They served a search warrant in a rough neighborhood and after entering the home and announcing their presence, they were shot at by the woman...who was most likely terrified and confused by the whole thing. Three of the officers were wounded by the woman and the officers returned fire, which did kill the woman. It's a horrible situation and there won't be much good to come out of it. The woman's family is devastated and the officers involved must be feeling conflicted about the whole thing. The one good thing that might come out of this is that more care will be taken in obtaining no-knock search warrants and raids will be better planned.
It's a horribly sad situatuion but the term "murder" does not appear to apply here becuase there is no information (at this point) that the officers went to the home with the intent of killing this woman. It was an awful set of circumstances that had one of the worst outcomes imaginable and it is truly pathetic, but it is NOT murder. The investigation may reveal that the officers were negligent in planning the raid or didn't do a good job in getting the search warrant...which contributes to the unfortunate circumstances but still does not make the case for murder.

Drug Wars? Oh yeah, we still have a Drug Czar and all that. That marijuana has killed more people than Terrorists,Hurricanes and AIDS. Lets keep up the 'good' fight. Granny's that do drugs should be shot on sight.
Freedom is a privilege. Not a right. Owning a Mach9 Semi Automatic Machine Pistol is a Right.
Shooting grannys that harbour drug lords is a right.
Buy that cop a beer for bravery, and a round for the bar cause we are allowed to drink Poison, its a Right.

I see it as a dirty 92 yr old woman probably defending her drug dealing family member was shot and killed for shooting at the Police who where serving a No-Knock Warrant. I guess no one thinks a 92 yr old woman could be dirty. I live in NY and I have family members that are police officers and they have told me about jobs that 70-90 yr people have been arrested. And when I first got out of the military I worked in Loss Prevention and I arrested a Mother - Daughter shoplifter team. The Mother was 85 and the daughter was 50

Gee maybe you should get all the facts before you show everybody how stupid you are again. They did have the right house, and they did have a warrant. They were looking for a male subject that also lived in the house, and after three officers were shot they returned fire. When they did go in and search the house they did find drugs inside. Nobody said they were going after the 92 year old women, but when she puts herself in that position, she has to face the consequences.

Hey, you shoot any ANYONE approaching your home and you will be fired upon , even by a burgler. From what it said, they had a search warrant for the premises, and the lady opened fire while the cops were outside. So that wasnt a senseless ...but justified shooting. I dont think anyone was clensing anything, if they were they would go bust up a crack house and stomp out the life of those maggots no?

" 92-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday after she fired at three narcotics officers trying to serve a warrant at her house, officials said.
Neighbors and relatives said it must have been a case of mistaken identity. Police said they had the right address.
Police said the woman, whose name was not released, was the only person home at the time, and had lived there for about 17 years.
As the plainclothes Atlanta police officers approached the house about 7 p.m., a woman inside started shooting, striking each of them, said Officer Joe Cobb, a police spokesman. One was hit in the arm, another in a thigh and the third in a shoulder.
The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, and all three were conscious and alert, police said.
Sarah Dozier, identified as a niece of the woman, told WAGA-TV that there were never any drugs at the house.
"My aunt was in good health. I'm sure she panicked when they kicked that door down," Dozier said. "There was no reason they had to go in there and shoot her down like a dog." "
You are just as ignorant as whoever made the comment at the end of this article. My dad is a cop and so are many of my friends, i know how this works. Plain clothed cops or not, when they entered that house they identified who they were by having their badges exposed and of course shouting police. She had no reason to be shooting at them. She was shot in self defense and the officers acted justly. For one a 92 year old shouldn't be anywhere near a firearm. And i dont know about you, but 92 year old or 22 year old, if someone shoots at me, i shoot back. Kill or be killed. So before you start slinging insults and calling them "rouge cops" (by the way its spelled rogue) you need to think a little bit about what your saying. And ethnic cleansing? please...and i bet your one of those who say 9/11 was a U.S. government plot.

You sorta did not tell the story or even the truth in your question
A 92 year old women who was armed and had shot at police who identified thierself. The police had a warrant after buying drugs at that home eariler.
The found drugs in the home after she was killed.
so you have a senior citizen helping a drug dealer ( maybe a family member) and you have her shotting police officers before she was killed.
So this was a very justified warrant and raid, and she left them no choice but to kill her.
where is the ethnic cleansing, roughe cops, get a life, you sound like so many who want to throw race into a criminal action. The senior citizen was a criminal, a old one but one anyway.
And it was not senseless, it was kill her or be killed since she shot and wounded police officers with her gun first.
Get some real facts

That's a hard question because we can say why did she fire at them and it was self defense. Then again what kind of neighborhood did she live in, maybe the kind that required a defenseless woman to protect herself. Do we not care because it was someone we did not know, or would we have cared if that was our great grandmother dead? I just find this situation sad.

hey I wouldn't put anything past anyone...my 68 year old mother-in-law was arrested for intent to sell marijuana last year.
It was not murder if she fired at them first...I'm sure the police announced themselves before entering the house, if not then that means you have a 92 year old carrying a pistil around her house at all times. I don't know which is more scary.

There was no ethnic cleansing, the cops weren't rogue (not "rouge", that's French for "red"), it wasn't a senseless slaughter and she was not "murdered'. She was shot after she opened fire on and wounded THREE police officers who were carrying out their legal and lawful duty by serving a search & arrest warrant.
Age is no defense for shooting cops, and ignorance is no excuse for posting the drivel you just laid out.
