Ask your guidance consulars they can help you out. Get a high GPA, and try to do allot of volunteer work outside of school. Work on learning how to write very well, and try to get a speech class this will help with interviews.

It is never too early to start looking for scholarships to attend college once you are in your high school years. The best thing at the moment is study and work hard for good grades because it will help you tap into merrit based financial aid (usually a really good class rank or GPA). However, you can search for other scholarships now, and the sources are free to sign up and use. Second, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Finally, go to the library and locate their scholarship listing book and jot down the ones that match you. Good luck!

- keep your grades up, if you have straight As in 3 years (from now to senior year), pretty much it will be guaranteed that you'll get a scholarship about 75% to 100% of the tuition
- try to have an over 4.0 GPA, some colleges consider this is more important than high SAT scores
- study your butts off and get the best scores in SAT, note that if you take it more than once, usually the scores go up. Don't forget that top colleges usually ask you to do the SAT II.
- aim high in your application, pricier schools often have more scholarships.

You should check with your schools student services office. They usually have scholarship information available. Ask a counselor at your school.
As for what colleges like, AP and honors classes always look good. Jobs look ok, but definately not necessary. Dont spend your high school years at work if you dont have to. It will probably result in higher grades, so yeah.
