Anyone who declares that there is no empirical evidence to support the process of evolution is the walking proof of the questioner's point.
Believing the assertions of some semi literate "preacher" or some fat woman who thinks that not cutting her hair is the key to paradise, is indeed stupid. What has always been the most striking characteristic the the creationists is their unfamiliarity with the evidence that exists. That's a shame because it is so incredibly interesting, and can just as easily be seen as the way god has worked to make this world.
It would seem that all you need to do is ask yourself, which is stronger, the evidence for the factual authenticity of the Bible or the arguments from physical evidence for evolution.
So evil is religion that it turns man against man and demands that we believe what any sane man knows cannot be true. If a religion's belief system is consistent with logical necessity and all human experience, then it is not a religion.
Mithra is believed by his followers to have been born of a rock (as shepherds lay watching), Buddha is said to have been born on the back of an elephant, and Jesus is supposed to have been born of a virgin. Which seems more plausible.

Religion is a thing many find comfortable. It is much more easing to think there is a thing like the afterlife than absolute nothingness, to simply stop existing altogether. Furthermore, it is much, MUCH harder to change the ideals of concentrated areas than individuals. There are power in numbers, and changing the status quo of belief in a whole state is not something done easily. I could go on and on. I for one think religion is rather silly. If there IS some sort of divine creator, I find it veeeeeeery unlikely he's anything that any human portrays him to be. There might be one or many, but there's honestly no way we could know. Now, I'll bite and say that sometimes religion does have the ability to produce very productive and outstanding morals if executed correctly, however it usually is not so. Religion gets in the way of progress if you take it too literally. I am an agnostic leaning towards atheism, and I believe organized religion is hurting us drastically. Science is backed up with verifiable evidence, while religious belief is not. Get religion out of our science classes; if it has a place in school, it's in philosophy classrooms.

Americans don't believe in evolution for the same reason that they don't believe that the earth is flat and if one goes too close to the edge they will fall off into space.
Evolution is a man's idea and an unproven theory.
Things do not evolve from nothing. Such complexities as the solar system, nature and the human body are not a result of nothing or of evolution. Sorry, but I find the theory of evolution ridiculous. I would much rather believe in a God who created who we are and the intricate beauty of the world around us. I see no intelligence whatsoever in belief of evolution or of a big bang theory. Those are theories for people who don't want God to exist for their own personal reasons.

One of the leading quantum physicists in the world, while lecturing on the first 3 seconds of the universe said that the elements had to be so precise (for the big bang's occurrence), that it would be like taking aim at a one square inch object on the other end of the universe (which is a distance of roughly 20 billion light years) and hitting it bulls-eye.
Or...the possibility of the big bang occurring is about the same possibility of taking all the elements required for making a suit, throwing those elements into a closet, closing the door, then opening the door, and a fully made suit be there in front of you.
Friends, why is it so hard to believe we were created? If you put a clock in the middle of a field, how would you assume it got there? I can tell you it didn't evolve there! Humans are obviously much more complex than clocks, yet still some believe we are a product of evolution.
The disciples suffered horrible deaths because of what they preached. If what they witnessed through Christ Jesus was false, why would they devote their lives and be tortured to death for a lie?
We were created for a reason. Give your life to Christ and live with a purpose.

Just because someone doesn't believe in Evolution doesn't mean they beleive in Creationism or any other religious explanation. I personally am an athiest, and although Evlolution appeals to me as a scientific alternative to religious explanations, I think that the theory is incomplete. I will not stand behind Evolution 100% simply because I don't think science is sufficiently capable of explaining life at this time. Just like I don't jump on "Big Bang Theory" or "String Theory" and promptly tout it as The Explanation for the creation of the Universe just because it's scientific. 20th century mankind is attempting to give final answers to questions that, as of 2,000 AD, we simply are not yet knowledgable enough to answer.

They do. It's just the religious fundamentalists have far too much power in the country and tend to also be extremely vocal in protesting anything that makesa logical sense if it doesn't support everything the bible says.
The sad part is that idiots keep trying to claim theres no evidence of evolution when they haven't been paying attention. There's alot of evidence for evolution. But it requires not being blind to science and knowing more about science that that it exists.
The state of education in the United States is deplorable.

Evolution is a man made theory. As humans we make every mistake that is possible to make. Why believe in something that has been thought of by a faulty mind? One of the evolution leaders Charles Darwin even admitted that evolution was made up and that God truly did exist. God is a spirit He does not make mistake and if you take the time to study the Bible you will find that it makes perfect sense.

You know the thing I don't understand? A deity who kickstarted or created the evolution process would be INCREDIBLY brilliant. To come up with something like that -- so intricate, so detailed -- would be pure genius. But the "creationists" don't look at it that way: They take one look at it and shout "NO!!! IT'S DARWINISM!! IT'S EVIL!!!" I don't understand why they don't claim that God was the one behind the evolution process -- seriously, that would be a compliment to him, if he came up with something like that.

Yes, they believe we were created by a giant, invisible being in the sky because a 2000 year old book tells them so. And yes, it is sad. That's why all the intelligent people need to get out there on the Internet and start arguing in favor of logic and common sense!

I imagine that the fact that so many American feel the Bible is a factual account of history is the reason why they don't believe in evolution. Additionally, many people find the idea of evolving from monkeys repugnant. I for one wish more Americans were as smart as monkeys and apes-and I am one (American, not simian)! We did elect a monkey so they can't be that bad...KIDDING! Don't send me hate mail!
