I work with a guy who's a few years older than me (i guess it sorta matters since i'm high school aged but not jailbait..!) and recently whenever i'm around him i have this bizarre urge to hug him. I don't really know why; i guess i like him? Would it be too weird to do it?

Ok this is why qustions REALLY need to be much clearer on here.
When you say "work with" - do you mean that you are for example a student teacher helping an adult with learning difficulties etc? If so then the answer is a loud and resounding NO - unless you want to lose your job for inapropriate behaviour.
IF however you mean you both work in Mc Donalds after school and you want to hug him - then yes - providing he has given signals that some degree of contact is ok, then why ever not??
In short:-
If you are in a position of trust over him, you NEED to be professional on this or it could backfire horribly - even if he is more than up for the idea... "Miss Saharia does nice things to me, I like her....."
If you are equals who happen to work at the same place, then providing you do this in such a way that if he is NOT up for the idea, he can stop you "hands-a-kimbo" then why not?

I am not sure hugging someone in a work environment is a good idea. I have had a surprise party thrown for me and in that case everyone got hugs but if its not a personal relationship... I would not do that. He might not feel the same way...

Yes, I think it would be, unless you had a logical reason for the hug. I think it would be okay if it was something like his birthday, one of you was leaving the job, talking about a sad situation in his life, or something along those line. But a random hug probably isn't a good idea.

That's unprofessional and not permitted in the workplace. Don't, it would be random, odd, and weird. Probably would creep him out...Try for guys your age, but I guess if he's also in highschool than you could maybe see him outside of work, just remember, when you get into the real world of careers, you can NEVER have a more-than-friends relationship with someone you work with.

I wouldn't. I had the same feeling for someone I work with and later I found out he hated me and he was gay.

he may not expect it, so it might be weird. start off with the friendly bumps and let it grow from there.
