No, a coup de grace means "a blow of mercy" in French, and it's killing that is intended to end the suffering of a wounded creature.
So, a gun shot to the head may be a coup de grace, but it might simply be "attempted murder". OTOH, a coup de grace could be a gunshot to the head or the heart, a knife stroke, or any other method of murder.
Coup de grace is sometimes used sarcastically -- someone isn't really suffering, but someone else "puts them out of their misery" by killing them (or even firing them from their job or ending a relationship with them).
