Okay, first of all, for a first car you probably don't want something that many people like to refer to as "gas guzzlers" which are most commonly known as SUV's. So, If I were you, I'd focus more on a car with a good crash test rating, good reviews, and is safe and reliable. You can find "sports cars" that are used usually at any used car dealership. My brother has a two-door, manual Saturn that was built in the late 90s and it looks like a sports car to me, and he only paid $3,000 for it. Just do some research and make sure you know what you are getting into before trying to purchase something. Safety and reliability are two things you should look for in a car well before looking at something that you'd consider to be "cool."

Cheap and older.... a Chevy Beretta Z26 or GT.... They are fairly cheap to buy (get a 91-96 with a V6) They are FAST and if anyone on the street gives you any sh*t about what you drive...not to worry ...they will be looking at your tailights disappear in the distance and have a new respect for you AND ur ride.... okay newer cars.... Honda Prelude, Mitsubishi 3000 GT and Eclipse, Honda Civic. I would stick to sporty cars.... enjoy it while you can..... one day you will need an SUV and there won't be any room in your life for sports cars...:-( Good luck

My nephew just bought his first car...he found a black 90-something Pontiac Sunfire that his girlfriend and friends at school love and he only paid $1800 for it. The main thing to be thinking about is reliability though, not how "cool" it looks. You're not going to care one little bit how cool it looks if you get stuck on the side of the road in a bad neighborhood on your way home one night.

how cool is a pretty car that you have to push around because it's always breaking down or cant afford to drive, life is full of compromises and this is your first major one , budget and reliable or cool and frivolous what do you really care what the rest of the dorks at school think? buy a beat up old minivan and paint it pink with a brush and turn it into a party wagon, have fun , there will be lots of time to conform when your old like me

Ford Mustang okay maybe unrealistic.

I've had a Ford Focus for my first car, they are good cars. I have a smaller car before that which i don't think they sell in the States. Similar to a smart car.

try getting a car that you like but also gets good gas mileage. i recently got my first car and it is a gas guzzler. i maybe get only 10 miles to the gallon around the city and about 22 miles on the highway. i would of liked to have gotten a Scion for my first car since it gets over 30 miles to the gallon in the city. that car only goes for about 13 or 14 thousand dollars, but my dad decided to get me a cheaper car so that i had to work for gas money. so try to get a car that you would enjoy and also not spend your paycheck filling it up. Good luck on finding your car.

a jeep or a Toyota would make a good first one,and there are a lot out there to choose from, you need to just take a day,and go out and look and see whats out there before you decide on any one kind of a vehicle, you may find something totally different than anyone else has that you like really well,so id just look around and see whats available, good luck i hope this help,s.

ohhhhh
I would've sugessted the compact Toyota Echo.
It's fuel economic, very affordable, but it's compact.

But if you want more space, I'd suggest the Toyota Corolla.
It's still relatively cheap and efficient in gas. But it's about $4000 more than the Echo.
