LCD will not run out and will not experience pixel "burn-in"
Plasma tubes run out after 3-5 years and have to be replaced- NOT FOR YOU if your a 15 hour a day TV on guy.
DLP has an awesome picture but is projection which uses lamps.... lamps will eventually burn out with time so this also would not be for you.
LCD is the way to go if you want to leave the TV on for long periods of time. LCD has a very nice picture in HD..

LCD t.v's are great. My 62'' LCD i have had for 2 years and it works fine. Its a Sony. My 34'' Samsung Plasma i have in my bedroom is good but the tubes don't last long. If the LCD light burns out thats $500 replacement. If your plasma bulb runs out its anywhere from $700-$1000 replacement. The LCD's last long but on all day. Don't know about all day.

52 inch Mitsubishi DLP 1080p, 2 HDMI, pip, 6 engine color wheel, etc... for under $1600. This is at Circuit City, all the reviews have been great. You really might want to look into Hitachi CRT from CC. A few days ago they had a 50 something inch 1080i, HDMI, for about $800. The good thing about the CRT is the bulbs won't need replacing like DLP's. Check out Circuit City and read the reviews for each tv.

It's not save to leave an electronic devices on.
Between plasma and LCD, yes plasma consumes more electric power than LCD from here we can conclude that it will generated more heat. Every electric devices have a live span, nothing immortal you know, for you I'll recommend LCD.
But why do you leave your animal to watch TV, Can animal watch TV? Sorry but this is new for me (animals that watch TV).

I do not think this will be a problem. I have a Emerson flat screen television that I got at walmart for only $99 it is awsome. I love it. I also do the same thing you do for my Jack Russles. Hope this helped.
