I have done little bit of looking around, as I too was curious about this same question. I'm looking to buy my grandmother one for a christmas gift. I found that some of the more upper end ones ($150+) have built in memory, as where some of the ones carry less of a price tag require a memory card. It's really a trade off, if you buy a lower end one, it's going to require a memory card, however you will be able to use that memory card (possibly) in your digital camera. The upside though to buying the one with built in memory is that, you 1.) dont have to buy the card. 2.) you can leave the photo frame running all the time with out having to worry about "needing your card to go take pictures". Some of the better ones from like Sharper Image Co. a fair amount of memory already in them.
