the air pressure required for the nissan altima for the year 2001, and i get this straight from the factory is zero. the nissan requires
no air pressure to operate unless you consider that it does use
a vacuum in some areas. if you were talking about the tires, just look at the side wall of the tire and it will give the proper inflation
pressures.

Do NOT look on the sidewalls for the proper tire pressure for your car. That figure is simply the tire manufacturers high pressure limit. The auto makers have pressure recommendations for each model. Most times you can find theses numbers on the edge of one of the doors. Open the door and look at its edge and you will see a tag with info like tire pressures, gross vehicle weight, etc. Each make of car has its own set. Often, the pressures are different for the front and rear axles. The reason for this is that different cars have different stopping and handling characteristics, and through extensive testing they determine the pressures that optimize these traits. The wrong pressures, especially if there is supposed to a differential between axles, can cause catastrophic results in extreme driving situations. Cars behave badly in such cases.

Don't go by the tires. That is only the maximum, which is 35. Check on your driver door jam or inside the trunk lid for the pressure that is recommended by Nissan, for the standard tire on that car.
