hi, i have a renault megane sport 1.6 convertible. Last winter it was often having problems starting and after a trip to the garage they replaced one of the 4 leads from the coil ( i think) and has been fine since. However winter has rolled round agaian and i have been having same problem will tick over but wont fire up until after about 10 attempts battery goes !! any ideas

If the car will turn over but wont start I would look at the immobiliser first.
after that go through the basics such as service items, plugs etc. If still no look put on a renault diagnostic machine at the main dealer

It sounds as though your battery is very weak if 10 attempts to start the car kill the battery. The car sounds as though it receives very little in the way of servicing or maintenance. It's a Renault which means it was built to have problems.
Get rid of it and buy a proper car, and then try maintaining that car properly.

Lots of great answers tonight i said care in the community wouldn"t work---Go to Halfords and buy a tin of damp start and spray the leads with it every two weeks through the wet damp winter weather should cure the prob.

if you have problem with start replace crankshaft position sensor
