These are some great answers. If they don't work, outrageous behavior, including females who suddenly do back flips while walking through a room, attack a still human target out of the blue without provocation, etc., have been linked to hormonal irregularities that need to be addressed by the Vet. Often this is true even if they are fixed.
If you cat is not neutered, you are going to have a more highly strung animal in any case, and especially with a male, I wish you luck.
You will likely find your home and belongings subjected to territorial spraying- one of the most pervasive and stomach churning smells in the Universe!
[I hope that you are a responsible type who keeps him inside only. I am already feeding one pathetic little (6 months old) Mama cat & her 3 terrified babies as a result of her abandonment & subsequent impregnation by unaltered males.
Hopefully it will have a happy ending, as I try to trap them with a local Trap/Neuter/Release program so there won't be 60 suffering orphans by this time next year.
Please be responsible with your unaltered male by keeping him inside & not increasing the sad population of Ferals.]
Also Tellington Touch method is getting great reviews for problem behavior. And while I was looking up Bach Flower Remedies on line, I came across a website "Sprit Essence Holistic Remedies", which was recommended by "Old Cat Lady" on Yahoo! Answers. It looks quite promising, with very targeted behavioral remedies, I would sure check that out if I was in your predicament. Best wishes to you & Mr. Rowdy Cat =)

Well thank god I'm not the only human owned by there cat...hehehe....
The reason myself and many other cat owners love cats is because of their independance, and attitudes, and sounds like your cat is like mine and has healthy amounts of both...
Water although a good idea, wont work for all cats, especially if yours is like mine and likes water, she even sits on the edge of the tub and plays in the water with her front legs and face.
She beats up on my daugther when she gets back after spending a night at a friends house, just because she has been left alone. She stomps her feet and growls if she is made to get out of bed in the mornings, and if she is tossed outside before brekfast then she hides and waits for you to hang the washing, then tackles your leg, claws beared. But I think the funniest (and I can say that now the scars have healed) was when the Father from the local church came to call on us, the cat was in a mood and ran up the front of my body, claws out and sharp, she got to my shoulder and ran down my back, and when the cats doing that infront of a holy man the last thing you can do is yell abuse at the cat and toss it against the closest wall.

But this doesnt help you does it...apart from to know your not alone...I think there should be a support group for owners of psycho cats...lol...

I will keep an eye on this question and see if any of the answers help me aswell...though...I personally think...its a cat...and they have attitude...no matter how much you tell them off they wont listen...and dont train...they say you dont own a cat, the cat owns you...and I think its true...

Fill a metal can (like a soda pop can) with small stones or dry beans, and shake it everytime you notice the cat acting up. Shake the can hard enough to make a loud sound. It should scare him just enough to stop what he's doing, but wont do any harm to him. Just make sure to stop shaking the can when he stops.

I'd say not to spray him with water because, especially for an 'evil' cat, it probably wont work anyway-cats may not like water, but they're not actually afraid of it.

If he is a young cat, then it could still be a bit of kitten play.

If he has been roughly handled then that is the way he has loearnt to play and he is just retaliating. Try to be calm with him and gentle and dont allow anyone to stir him up.
If you want to play use toys on strings, etc that way he wont be coming into contact with your skin.
When one of my cats decided to be a roughie and she misbehaved she was put in time out - a room by herself. She learnt that play was ended if she was too rough. She also now has a feline playmate who gives as much as he gets

Shock collars ARE inhumane. Have you tried catnip? (Double edged sword, can calm and mellow a cat or get them super wound up) Furry and jingling toys can be distracting. You may just have to live with it, I have had an evil cat for 18 years.:)

My cat used to be evil too. I sprayed him with a water bottle when he wasn't being nice, he eventually stopped being mean.

Get rid of him?? I have one that is evil and he has been fixed. He still attacks our feet. Still gets on kitchen counters, and still breaks everything that isn't nailed down. I am this close to making him learn dumpster diving.

Search for 'classic conditioning' - yes, even cats can be trained.

Train your cat before he trains you!
