You say "all day" so I'm guessing that this is the first day, yes? One or even two days is not long to get used to the new sights, smells, and sounds. Try to keep the house quiet, and company to a minimum until they creep out to investigate. If you have other pets or small children, you might need to give the new comers privacy in that room for most of the day. Food, water, and litter box in that room so they can make a quick dash out and back. If this is day 1, don't be too concerned. Sit on the bed and talk to them soothingly for a while and then leave them alone for a while. Do you have any thing from their former home? Some times it just doesn't work out that you can have their old toys or favorite bedding, or even know what they were, but any thing familiar will help.
It seems that you've done a very good thing to take in these kitties. Owners move where they can't keep them, go on duty overseas, become ill. They are confused, homesick, and miss the people that they knew. Be patient. They will feel at home with you soon.
A vet check is always a good thing for new pets. If they weren't vetted before you got them, you may as well get it over with fast, if you wait until they trust you, it might take months and then you may have to gain their trust all over again. Good luck to you. It's going to work out just fine.

I got my two cats about 2 years ago, and they were both already grown. I keep a food dispenser, and a water dispenser filled all the time so that they can eat and drink whenever they want to. When I first got them, one warmed up to me quickly, but the other hid from me for a fairly long time, I forget whether it was 2 weeks or a month, but I couldn't find her very much, and I was even afraid at times that she might be dead. But, I knew she could eat and drink and she wouldn't starve unless she chose to, so I decided to just leave her alone. After a while, she got used to the new place, and she got used to me, and she started coming out. Now, both cats follow me just about everywhere in the house that I go, and they often just watch over me. They are the best cats I have ever had.

I got a new 3-year-old cat a few weeks ago. When I brought her home, she hid under the couch for a long time. She wouldn't come out until I left her alone for a while. I think she felt intimidated by a new person paying attention to her, and she really just wanted to explore the apartment by herself without a stranger looking at her.

When she did come out, she was really tense and didn't seem happy for a day or two. However, after a couple of days she was happy to be with me, and I'm sure your new cats will love to be with you, too!

They just need some time to adjust. Did you try Catnip? I have 5 cats and they all love Catnip, it is a natural thing and it relaxes cats and makes them feel good. Give them some attention, too, and they will come around for you. Best wishes. :)

you should probaly try playing with them, my two year old cat cant resist a string or yarn wiggling around, they get curious. also, leave them enough food and water always. and leave them to explore the house for themselves. try giving them treats to come close to you.
