F1 races only pay points for the first 8 finishers. First place getting 8 points, second place 7 and so on. Should NASCAR do the same thing giving points only to the top 15 or 20 places?

I think that it would lead to a much more exciting season and keeps the points much closer. What does everyone else think?

The point system is flawed, but I can't think of a way to fix it. The current system does reward those teams that are the most consistent and I would think that there should be more emphasis on consistency rather than on wins. Matt Kenseth's championship in 2003 was highly talked about because he only visited victory lane once that season. Who cares? He was the most consistent driver that season and rightfully won the Cup. This year Kasey Kahne had a lot of wins, but he also had too many bad finishes to be a real threat. I guess I would have to vote to leave the point system the way it is.

The scoring works fine, I would like to see something for winning a pole would be the only change. With the new Chase and the end of the season F1 scoring would really mess that up for driver points. Too many variables in Nascar where they are racing much closer than F1, where one little thing can put anyone in the wall.

First off, you asked about the scoring system, yet you are talking about the point system for drivers... NASCAR's scoring system is the same as F1, they use the AMB Scoring and Timing system. As far as points, no... NASCAR's point system works for NASCAR and is not meant to be compared with the point systems of other racing leagues. Keep in mind that F1 drivers get salaries that are far and above what NASCAR drivers get; the best Nextel Cup drivers get about $2 million a year in base salary. You do have a great point about keeping the points closer and NASCAR is actually reviewing how points will be awarded for 2007 and beyond. Hope this helps.

In F1 we've had the problem that the points awarded are to close. With a win getting you 10 and 2nd getting 8 a driver who's in the lead of the championship can get away with second place if they're main rival are in 5th (4points) or less. It does show who are more consistently in the top 8.

An example would be Keke Rosberg who won the world championship with one win to his name but he was consistantly in the points compared to his rivals.

I guess what I'm trying to say that if NASCAR adopts F1 style scoring then the best better be good at staying consistant in the points or it will be hard to win the championship.

(Point system in F1: 1st: 10, 2nd: 8, 3rd: 6, 4th: 5, 5th: 4, 6th: 3, 7th: 2, 8th: 1)

My step-dad was actually talking about the same thing saying how nascar should model points after F1. I think it would make the championship interesting but I think the chase is good...for now.

i admire, take exhilaration in, and recognize them the two. i admire getting up early to observe an F1 race or putting the alarm for 3am to observe. F1 is the top of motorsport international. era. no count number in case you like that or settle for it or no longer. yet that doesnt propose united states of america of america and Nascar dont have its share of desirable skills as nicely. of course a Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart might have shrink it in F1. And Schumacher might have been super in Nascar. This F1 vs. nascar is making human beings as irrational as Republicans vs Democrats. like the only you like and stop calling the different section idiots. I too, as quickly as thought F1 became into boring yet as quickly as i began out observing, I have been given thoroughly hooked and massive time. the two are actually not something alike and that i like it that way. Nascar is a chilly tall draft beer and F1 is a tumbler of great wine. It relies upon on what you're contained in the temper for.
