There is no legal limit on dating.

However, there are a lot of laws about having sex with minors.

In all states, having sex with a minor three or more years younger than you is illegal, taking nude photographs of someone under 18 is illegal, and touching the private regions of someone under the age of 14 is illegal.

In most states, there are additional laws against fondling or having sex with minors, no matter what your age is. A few states have some exceptions that may allow sex with someone as young as sixteen, but there are a lot of special circumstances that have to be met (Marriages, parental consent, and things like that, which will never happen, are the most common special circumstances.)

A few states allow someone over the age of 18 to have sex with a minor if there is less than two years age difference, or so the rumor goes. Bottom line, there's a lot of legal risks, and not many people around here know the laws for your particular location.

But, there's no laws about dating, so as long as you date without sex, kissing, or heavy petting, you should be fine.

I agree with you that the need to alter the mind, i.e., to escape from reality, is a basic human need. I think it may be a little lower on the list, though, because humans need love and/or companionship before they need other things. I also agree that the taxation issue, especially when it comes to marijuana, is significant. If everybody could just grow it in their back yard, the government wouldn't get its cut like it does with tobacco and alcohol. The pharmaceutical industry has enough drugs to put the entire nation into la-la land and then some, but they federally regulated, are profitable, and pay taxes. Heroin and cocaine are more problematic because of their addictive properties and potential lethal nature. If anybody could legally buy these drugs, cheaply, there would be a huge spike (no pun intended) in overdoses, so in this regard I believe the government, or at least your average voter, is concerned about the health effects and not so much about the lost taxes.

I don't think it is wrong for you if you are very close in age like that. I was 16 when I dated a 19 year old.

most states have a law that if the age gap is within 3 years, then it's ok.

but the bigger issue here.. if you are 15 or younger, should you really be having sex? please think carefully about this.. it is a big decision that comes with big responsibilities.. make sure you are ready and won't regret it..
