I know exactly how you feel, I have been depressed for as long as I can remember. About 5 years ago I was diagnosed as having hypothyroidism. Depression is a symptom, so is weight gain, which doesn't help the depression, it's a vicious cycle! Go to your doctor and maybe have some lab work done to see if there may be an underlying problem. For me getting enough sleep and more exercise helps, but sometimes that doesn't seem to work either. I have to push myself to get up, shower, put on makeup and go out, even if it's just to the post office to mail bills or to the grocery store to get things I need. I also write a lists of goals to accomplish and try to accomplish as many as I can through out the coming week. It's amazing the great feeling I get when I see that I've completely redone/ cleaned out a room. My best advice is to keep yourself distracted with something productive and stimulating. If you're busy, you can't think about being sad. I also use multitasking as a tool, I'm just too busy to think! I hope this helps! Good Luck! =)

First of all, realize that what you are feeling is a normal reaction to stress. As a society, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to "Cheer up! Mind over matter! If you think positive, you'll be happy!" We aren't robots. We don't all react the same way to life events.
Try doing something that completely "takes over" your mind. I find that doing a complex task (playing golf) or going someplace entirely new (going hiking) can completely occupy my mind. Hang out with somebody who always makes you laugh! It keeps you from cycling through what's bothering you over and over.
And, just the fact that you're asking for help, shows that you are ALREADY trying to do something. That's a GREAT FIRST STEP!!!
If "nothing seems to help" and this is going on for more than a week or so, it might be time to check with a doctor who can evaluate you for depression or other health issues. Better safe than sorry!!!

Stop moping around, get off your backside and take some exercise. Go swimming. Go for a brisk walk. This will release endorphins into your system and raise your morale.
