Here in the UK you have to be 18 to buy acohol.......but the thing I don't get is............when you visit the company's website (i.e. www.guinness.com) - why do you have to be 18 to access it?! It's not like you're actually buying it, and you could just lie!!!

Can anyone shed any light?

Probably just a matter of because the content within the website isn't geared towards children thus they would like only 18+ participants within the website. Yeah, children could lie to get into the website and since the material therein isn't pornographic in nature (18 or 21 only in some countries) it's technically okay, but just having that extra measure to view the website would possibly allow parents supervising their children that don't know of Guinness or other products of that nature a warning so that they can deter their kids from progressing. Obviously, kids who are unsupervised and still want to view will lie to enter, but that boils down to a whole new topic of Child Supervision.

The website promotes the product more than would be allowed for minors to view given advertising restrictions on alcohol.

It`s probably to cover themselves, 18 to buy 18 to view like the censorship rating of films.

Exactly because they have things on their website which make alcohol look alright and they have by law only allow 18 or overs on their site.

Are there laws perhaps which forbid access to alcohol advertising for under-18s?

They are not actually worried if you lie to go on there site as long as you see it and want to buy their product, they just have to look like they are being responsible.
