I'm not sure. I would go get the epsom salt. My big toe toenail became ingrown and I couldn't seem to make it better. A co worker told me that her doctor told her to soak the toe in warm water to soften and then cut a v in the center of it. Then pry out the nail and put a small piece of cotton under it. I used epsoms salt to soak mine and this worked well. The puss came oozing out after soaking. And the v cut allows the nail to come towards the center and out from the skin where it is buried.

Think Epsom salt works better. Have had them so bad and they are so painful, feel sorry for you. After I soaked them I would put cotton under the edges of the nail and encourages it to grow out straight.

Anything that will soften the ingrown toenail just enough for you to cut it will be fine.

Yes but it takes more so it costs more, also it will take longer to draw out any infection that might be present..but hey if you're thrifty and patient it's all pretty much the same - note though you'll waste even more because the water will cool before the salt really does it's job so you'll have to add more salt when you change the water
