French or French Canadian. But there is an American (I think) writer named Lynda Laplante. La plante means "plant" in French.

French speaking. Possibly French, but as likely to be Canadian or Belgian, perhaps even Swiss, less likely to be from Africa, but not to be completely excluded..

it definitely sounds french and it could even be La Plante being, in latin language "la" a definite article and "plante" meaning plant.
