I recently had some problems with my computer, and someone suggested reinstalling Windows XP Service Pack 2. Now that I have, I can't load to the desktop without going into safe mode. Every time I turn on the computer, I'm prompted by the start up error and given the safe mode/safe mode with networking option, etc. I ran a registry repair program and some other programs as well. I have no idea what to do to try to fix this other than reinstall Windows Xp. Any advice would be appreciated.

I should have mentioned that when I went in to the add/remove programs tab under the CP, Windows XP SP2 wasn't listed. I also tried restoring to an early point, but that didn't help. Thanks for the suggestions, though. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get to the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs from Safe Mode, click on Show updates at the top. Near the very bottom of the list will be Service Pack 2. Click on it, then click on Remove. Close Control Panel and restart the computer. Hopefully this will fix it. Do this way before you re-install Windows XP.

Then you might look at this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=windowsxpsp2

This might help answer some of the questions. Some people have a problem with SP2, you may very well be one of them. Uninstall it, then check with Microsoft through the link and see if you can find answers there.

first note taht you can't uninstall windows 98 wiothout affecting other OS installed in your system. If you don't want the win98 files, just format the particluar drive. But the boot menu will remains displaying both OSs. Don't format, if the boot menu installed in the Windows 98 drive. For SP2, Download it from windows 98 or windows 2000. MS website will not validate 98 and 2000 systems. (the website will ask for the validation, but it will succeed and you can download). ask me if you want to know more.
