Its not just turkey! In countries like India, Pakistan and most of the developing countries animals are treated really badly. Its just how they're brought up i guess. Animals are not thought to have feelings or seen as pets...... they are dirty things which shoud not be brought into the house or even touched. There are alot of stray dogs and cats who steal food from stalls and evn homes. so they are seen more as a annoyance rather than something to love. No point in stressing over it, everyones like that....kids harm animals just to have a laugh. Its really sad and ive seen it happen...almost made me cry! but we change the mentality of all those people.
P.S it was very sweet of u to stay with the dog!

What you've just seen maybe a cultural thing.
In some parts of the Muslim world dogs are a taboo animal. In Saudi Arabia, they are never seen. In Brunei, someone we knew had one of her dogs beaten to death in her own back garden and her other dog was too traumatised to go outside afterwards. Malaysia and Indonesia aren't exactly dog-friendly countries either.
This isn't a universal thing across the religion, but it may apply in Turkey and because it's cultural practice dosn't make it right, but it may be the reason why the driver behaved in this way.
Nor am I saying that all muslims have a thing against dogs. I've got two Pakistani friends who both have dogs, and in Oman, we used to see Bedouin with hunting dogs quite a lot.
