Why don't you ask the parents what your grandson wants for Christmas an then get some ideas from them and if they say well he would like a certain item, but we can't afford to get it, then you could offer to buy it. Also ask your grandson what he would like and then mention it to his parents and see what they think and then you could say to them I'd like to buy him that gift if you don't mind. At least by doing it this way you are getting their input before you actually buy your grandson anything

I would be more considerate of his parents feelings. They are the parents and if they don't want you to spoil the kiddo...don't. Otherwise you are overriding their desires and putting them, not to mention the kiddo in an akward position that will only lead to drama.
If you want to spoil him, be there for him. Love him, make some cookies before you come over, and have some hot cider before he sleeps. Be the best, most involved, respectful grandma you can be.
Even if you don't like Mom and Dad putting their feet down, you still HAVE to respect it. But, that doesn't mean that you can't make him feel like a million bucks without spending money or trumping their authority.
What momma and daddy says, goes. I would talk to them about exactly what you are doing that makes them upset and work around it. If it is an expensive gift they don't want him to have, respect it. If it is a ceritan rule you are violating they set forth for him, follow the rule.
Grandparents are a blessing. They are the greatest things in the world....love your grandchild and you will spoil them just with that. I know my grandparents did. They never did anything fancy, they just loved me. I wouldn't be the same without them. They are my lifeblood.

How can you upset them by buying him gifts, unless you are getting something that they are against him having. Anyway the gifts are from Santa. I spoil my granddaughter rotten, I would not have it any other way, but the gifts are in her pillow case as if they are from Santa, I would not want it any other way, I do not want the glory and be thanked eternally for the gifts, just like to see her little face when she opens them, that is enough. Have a word with the parents to see what they think.

why would you upset them? Are you planing to go against their wishes? If so, I don't see how you can avoid it. We have asked our parents to only buy a few things for our son and I will be upset if they do otherwise as they should respect our wishes. He will get tons of stuff as it is and I want him to value what he has, instead of getting so much he becomes ungrateful.
My nephews get so much at Xmas they bascially just rip the paper of their gifts without even seeing what they are and have already moved onto the next gift, it's really rude and annoying when you have spent time shopping for these presents.
I'd rather my parents spent time with my son and spoilt him that way. Presents are great and I would never stop them buying him things but it can get too much and a child will just expect to get everything it wants which is all too apparant in children today.

I am a mother of a 3 year old girl, i am not with her dad anymore so she has only my parents. Still i manage to give her everything she needs and some of what she wants, shes the happiest girl in her nursery and fortunately she knows that as much as i love her ishe doesnt need every toy in toys"r"us. So with both parents and grandparents i should think your grandson gets all the love he needs and ample of things he wants, therefore you dont need to give him all of your money as gifts that i assume will be thrown into a cupboard by june. I always ask my parents not to spend more than 30 pounds and love her as much as they possibly can. Teach your grandson lifes lesson of love, remember beatles song, money cant buy me love? Then his parents will be the happiest parents in the world this christmas. good luck!

Instead of spoiling him with gifts why not spoill him longterm and start a savings account for him then only you know how much you have spoilt him you could give him as much and as often as you liked and in years to come he would understand how much you spoilt him...............and im sure thats worth more brownie points than causing upset at such a lovely family time and lets face it we dont get alot of those anymore................you would be alot better thought of all round

to be honest there's spoiling them and then there's going over the top.
Why don't you collude with your son or daughter and ask what they are getting them and add a few more presents to it. If it's the case of you have more money then they do offer to help out with paying for sone of the presents they are getting them.
I'm sure you don't give presents to get love of your Grandchildren so do it that way.

Give him lots of love first of all. Secondly, Grandparents are meant to be the spoilers. Some of my foundest moments were of my Grandma "spoiling" me with gifts and telling my Mom that was her "job".
