I don't know if a ankle replacement involves screws, but it may be reverberation in the joint causing the pain. The slightest reverberation can cause headaches plus other pain.

So that might be it.

Since I broke my ankle, I can't tolerate cold in it. The screws in the plates radiate cold into the bone and it is VERY painful.

I have a padded ankle wrap that I put on mine when it is cold. The same type might work to help block the viberation.
