Hi,
I was a periodontal surgical assistant for 6 years. A periodontal pack is a soft, putty type material that is used after gum/teeth surgery. It goes on soft, then it gets hard. It usually stays in place for one week. When someone has one on in their mouth, they have to use an antibacterial mouthwash. No brushing or flossing or chewing foods in that area. After one week, the doctor or assistant takes it off, then sometimes a new one is put on. Hope this info helps you.

Periodontal pack - a surgical dressing applied over the surgical wound following periodontal operations to provide a matrix for the regeneration of tissue and enhance healing processes.

I think you mean Pterodactyls, and they hunted in flocks, not packs. In fact, there weren't many dinosaurs that did hunt in packs, except the sabre-toothed tigers.
