I have noticed that i have become very irritable and often snap at the smallest things. I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences or anyone that knows of another alternative allergy medicine (possibly OTC) that won't give this side effect.

I have taken both Allegra and Zyrtec and have found no significant change in my mood...
I'm ALWAYS irritable and snap at people for no reason (whether I'm on allergy medicine or not).

Neither Allegra nor Zyrtec have affected my mood.
The brain is a funny thing. Medications can effect different people in different ways. For example, a group of people with ADHD may take the same medicine but the dosages vary widely, from person to person. Also, some people have mood swings, while others do not.
Definitely try the OTC antihistamines (just not all at once) ;)
Ask your pharmacist where they are. They have been proven to be safe and may be safer than prescription antihistamines.

My brother had really bad allergies when he was young. He takes Allegra now and there is no change whatsoever in his mood. He is the same. Maybe Allegra doesn't work for you and you should try something else. Also, this could just be a side effect of not getting enough sleep. Try and get 8-9 hours of sleep every night and see if there is a change.
