Long story made short.
I am 24. When I was 22 I was charged with a 4th degree felony theft charge. I stole a ring that was worth $13,000, and pawned it.
I have made all restitution, complied with all set forth guidelines, and I have been in no other trouble. I am currently on 2nd year of non reporting supervision. I will be on probation until 3/2008.
My probation officer has been a great friend to me, and he has above and beyond the call of duty for me.
I was a high school drop out when the theft occured and have since completed an on line course to obtain my high school diploma. I am a mother to a little girl and will always teach her right for wrong from now on, and be there for her. I had no one from childhood to adult hood. I want a career in criminal justice so I may guide one to a better life, and from the streets such as my PO did.
I am limited on what positions I could actually hold.
Does anyone out there have any idea of what degrees I could obtain in the CJ feild?

You can always become an alcohol and drug counselor. Where it gets tricky when you want to work with kids. I have a BS degree and I am a Felon and did 20 months in prison in Oklahoma. That is our industry - prisons. It's hard, it's very hard. It's a shame you can not get into Police work. You can get state jobs, and not much else. it's a wonder, why this wonderful judicial system we have - we get out of jail, probation or parole and turn around and have to depend on the state for help, because we can't find a job that pays enough to raise our children. Everyone puts you down, when you are already down. So, I hope the best for you and take care of that little girl. I have one too, but she just turned sixteen. She is really learning a lot about our system. And she thinks it's unfair and it is. Yes, for all of you self righteous people out there - no I shouldn't have broken the law - dah...........and because we broke the law, everyone shouts you lost your rights. All I want is to be able to support my child like everyone else. But, you see you aren't like everyone. You and I got arrested, shame, shame, but you know. we are the people who can help other people before they make the mistakes that we did. I was in for Forgery. But, I can go and finish my Masters and become a counselor and for those of you that say, you have no rights! You broke the law! guess what I may counsel you someday... see ya soon!

You cant be denied education because you have a felony. That is up to you. You can obtain a Phd in criminal justice if you desire. I would talk to my PO as to the types of jobs you can get after you get your deree. The felony may have some bearing on that, then again since it was only 4th degree, it may not. I am a correctional officer and have been for many years. I applaude your efforts and wish you luck.

confident you may. I only did via Tory college. I wouldnt do it nonetheless. I wish i might have switched my degree to something greater effective. till you're making plans to get out and be a political adviser or a cop. My suggestion - carry out a little looking on what jobs require or choose CJ stages. i became into making plans on being a cop after my first enlistment yet I stayed in and now i might take a extensive paycut if I did that...in spite of the degree. whether you prefer to do FBI or something you will possibly desire to nevertheless think of approximately getting a level in something different than CJ

Which degree would you like. Just because you have a criminal
record doesn't mean you can't go to collage.
