i've looked at free translation sites and they all say it's querido, is that right?

Querido if you are talking to a male and Querida is you are talking to a female.

Darling can mean:
Querido/ querida
Cariño (for male and female)- In Spain this is more used
Mi amor

I think querido (to a man - it's querida to a woman) is the closest. There are other endearments however.
