I want a air rifle. I was thinking 22. cal, or .177 cal. What are the laws, and regulations? I dont think shooting ranges allow them. Where could I use one? could I shoot it across the street?( I live near 6 acres of wood). Do i have to just go upnorth and use it? Thank you.

You can target shoot in your woods if you have the permission of the owner. Don't shoot in populated areas, and make sure there is some sort of backstop behind your target, like trees or a hill. .22 or .177 is personal preference. Crossman makes good air rifles.

What kind of shooting are you going to do?
Target?
Hunting?
Plinking?
These are just some of the questions that will narrow it down.
What state are you in?
Some states will require a firearms permit, like New Jersey.
Can you mail order a airgun to your state?
Some states will require that you have it shipped to a gun dealer
with a license to sell firearms.
I buy all of my airguns from several online shops that are the distributors in the U.S. for the best German, and British airguns in the world. I don't waste my time and money with the Chinese or Spanish guns, Crosman is an American brand and not bad but some of their guns are made by the Chinese and renamed Crosman. You just have to know which one of the guns are made by the Chinese.
Warranty can be difficult with the Chinese and Spanish guns,
they can be difficult to get a hold of and even more difficult to get your gun back. I've heard of some horror stories from other airgun shooters.
First, find out what the legalities are in your state and city regarding airguns.
Second, when you find out what they are check out this link,
this is one of the places that I get some of my guns and pellets from:

REMEMBER, AIRGUNS AREN'T TOYS.

a .22 is not an air rifle, nor is a .17. bb guns, pellet guns, paintball guns, and airsoft guns are the only gun powered by air. every other one is powered either by black powder, smokeless powder, or a primer alone.
